Do you have a hip flask? Do you use it? When, where, and how often? What do you carry in it?[More:]
I got a flask for Valentine's Day (along with nice scotch) and I haven't used it. I want to do this right!
I don't even have a hip.

I bought a stainless steel hip flask at the outdoors store. They also offer it in camo.

I put brandy in mine, and had it in my jacket pocket during a moslem wedding. Offered some to the groom, who was grateful.

I have also packed rum in it on a camping trip. It is a lot more subtle than a glass bottle, and proof against breakage.

Looks cool, and is a lot of fun to develop the skill of opening it with one hand.

Maybe part of my problem is that I rarely leave the house?

well, then throw a lot of trash on the floor and pretend you're in a hobo jungle.

Yes, I have an Ikea Gröggy flask. I take it on fishing trips.

I have a nice leather covered pewter flask. I use it about twice a year.

Used to, but they're never big enough.

I just get a mickey (375mL plastic or glass flasks) from the liquor store. Damned shame (well, not really) that 375mL units of Finlandia come in mini-sized bottles instead of flasks.

Given that, it's usually a flask (270-something mL) of Remy Martin VSOP or a flask of Wild Turkey or Smirnoff (yuck).

I have a few, I never use them. I'm not really a big drinker.

If anyone wants to get me one for a present, I'd love it. Especially the ones that are covered with that awesome Celtic engraving in the leather. I'd fill it with Maker's Mark and take it out when I was out in nature when it was really cold.

I have a crazy halloween flask that I got at the Seattle airport. It's orange and yellow flamey enamel with a dancing devil and bat motif. I fill it with Maker's Mark and take it to gigs. I'll take a picture of it tonight.

I have a nice flask. I've taken it to parties when I don't think the host or hostess or their guests can be trusted to supply enough booze. I'll show up with community alcohol and tuck the flask away for myself. My partner doesn't like it when I do this because I tend to drink the whole flask on those occasions where I'm wrong about the quantity of alcohol available to the community and then I get too inebriated to function because I've had flask + community alcohol. I'm working on being more trusting of party hosts and their guests now.

I have one for emergency use, currently emergencies seem to call for Jamesons.

Flask maintenance:

Before you use it, fill it with cheap vodka and let it sit for a day. Discard vodka, rinse, fill with good stuff.

Do NOT store booze in it for more than a day or two. Empty and rinse and keep the cap off or loosened.

I carry mine about once a month, usually out for a night on the town or to a party. It's real purty and I like using it.

Reference to "purty flask" with instructions attached, money's on specklet.

My engraved flask was stolen when the house was burgled, so I'm looking for one to replace it. It was 2 years ago, so I'm not in a big hurry.
