The Onion returns to cultural relevance... temporarily, at least. They've been off their game for a few years.
relevance is irrelevant.

Sweet. I've been skipping directly to the AV Club for awhile now -- I'll have to go back and see what's up...

They don't run nearly enough Jean Teasdale columns to please me. Only two in the past year!!!

I dunno, I think they just got tired of telling us the truth about the world for a while.

Kinda like what seems to be a theme for me lately, the Dilbert column where the PHB says "It all came together for me when I realized I hate our customers."

That kind of writing must get pretty depressing after a point. Back in university I wrote a paper on the role of satire in society, and it really is kind of... useless. Satire is basically a fresh way of stating something everyone already knows to be true, and it does not usually prescribe remedies, let alone prove to be the catalyst for change. So, as a satirical writer, you would focus on the wrong and the absurd all the time without ever feeling you'd effected any change.

At some level, Jonathan Swift must have found it grinding to write A Modest Proposal.
