Questions Does everyone think Publisher is kind of a piece of junk, or is it just me? How many plants can one have in their office before people start to talk? If I like the teevee show 'The Wire,' what else might I like?
Publisher does suck.

1. Publisher is like Fischer Price DTP for office workers.

2. If you have enough plants you won't hear, or see, your coworkers. I found planting an Amarillus or forcing bulbs on the desk has an amazing effect on others. People love watching them grow and finally bloom.

3. The Wire? MMM never heard of it.

jelly, you must watch The Wire - it's hands down the best television show I've ever seen.

box: Homicide? The shield?

The Wire.

I like Homicide a lot, but I've never really given The Shield much of a chance, possibly because I so thoroughly disliked The Commish (yeah, not fair, I know). Is The Shield worth seeing, though?

DAMN, no HBO here. I will find an alternative . . . delivery method! ;)

And a few reviews.

The Shield is really well written, and well worth watching by someone who likes The Wire. On the outside it looks like the main character is a meathead, stereotypical bad cop, and no doubt he's a tough guy, but he's actually played really subtle and intelligent in how he has to juggle being a cop with his extra-curricular activities, and the working relationship between Detectives Claudette and Dutch is clever and their dialogue fun in how it weaves with the cases they work on. I'd say the third and fourth seasons are the best of the bunch.

So, once upon a time, I tried to use Publisher to do a website (hey, it was 1997 and it was all I had). I managed to do a pretty good layout and dropped in text where I wanted it to be -- Helvetica 12pt -- and saved the thing as html. Uploaded the page and found that Publisher had turned my text into a GIF. Black text on a white background, no comment font in a common size, no weird formatting or anything, and it literally refused to leave it as text.

1. Avoid.
2. Ideally the number of plants should be the number of pieces of furniture in your office +1.
3. I like the Wire, too. A lot, actually. I've also found the O.C. to be entertaining, so you might not want to ask me for TV recommendations.

AlexReynolds has just sold me on checking out the Shield, too.

I have about ten plants in my office. What are people saying?
