Susan Polk trial, now featuring BUNNIES!!! OMG! For the second day, the unofficial foster mom of Susan Polk's youngest son testified as a hostile witness for the defense. Marjorie Briner, among other things, testified that Polk had a nasty happy of losing her temper, then writing conciliatory notes from jail.→[More:]

"Is that an example of verbal abuse?" Polk asked her witness, Marjorie Briner, focusing on a thank-you note written in pencil and decorated with a sketch of a rabbit.

Polk went through a stack of letters sent from jail that overflowed with thanks and praise for all that the Briner family had done for her son.

"I have to respond to the allegations," Polk told the judge. "It goes to the heart of this case that I'm the kind of person who blows up at people."

Also in today's edition, Polk called for a mistrial three times before lunch. (Twice in the first half hour of the session.) Polk also called on a former colleague of her dead husband to testify that he had been a cocaine addict. (The judge quashed that line of questioning.)

Polk also admonished the gallery for making "sighs and other noise." But when a bailiff warned her to stop speaking as the jury entered the room, Polk "objected to the bailiff shushing" her.
