Yay for Triode and Small Ruminant for my first-ever shoutouts!

Where was the place you went? It looks like a good place to go.

Luka's, in Oakland. It was totally lovely, until the Tool concert next door got out and the bar was invaded by cowboy-hat-wearing pot-reeking loudness; the DJ starting up at that point ended up forcing us out.

At which point we went on a tour of Oakland's bars, trying to find someplace that wasn't blaring music. Dudes in a passing car took that opportunity to throw eggs at us, and somehow managed to miss hitting any of the eight of us.

So we ended up at ... The Golden Bear, maybe? 50s dive red vinyl and rock walls combined with east Asian red lamps and Hindu god statues -- very odd. Totally cute bartender who was very excited to find me a substitute when they were out of Maker's Mark; she beamed when I told her Jamesons would be fine, satisfied she had done her job well. I was totally charmed.

Banarama on the stereo helped, too.
