Parachute Jump at Coney Island [More:]Great new Wikipedia article. I'm so happy it's being/been restored (and wondering if it will ever "work" again) -- I had so many questions about it when I lived out there and hit the Coney as often as I could just to ride the Cyclone.
Self-link to the extent I've added a bunch to the article.

Plus, here's an awesome new "woodie" rollercoaster, the Voyage at Holiday World in Indiana. Videos!

I have a cute little story about going to Six Flags Great America, where I was a little too girthy for one attraction. I then went around saying "Batman: The Ride? Fat man. Denied." for weeks. Um, I've lost 20 pounds since then, but 20 more wouldn't hurt.

Anyway, my favorite there is the Viper, because it's a big version of the Cyclone. I've traditionally gone on a special group night and totally exploit the "golden hour" at the end of the night when you can literally hit as many rides as you can get to with no waiting.

What's your favorite ride?
As a kid, I must have passed that parachute jump a thousand times going back and forth from Long Island to visit family in Brooklyn. I can't recall it ever being in operation, though.

In grade school, we were always going to Rye Beach, and I loved the Dragon roller coaster. Probably too mild by today's standards, it was pretty good in the 1960's.
