Metachat Craft Ring [More:]Looking for who would be interested in participating in a mecha craft ring. It would work in a similar way to the CD swap, only with crafting. Everyone has some sort of crafty-type interest, it seems.

If you're interested or would like to brainstorm, please do. If there's enough interest, I'm willing to spearhead it, as my gift upon returning to Meta Land.

At some point, we can make a wiki page about it.
Yes, please!

I will make tea cozies out of the remains of our once-glorious civilization.

I'm pretty handy with paper airplaneys, also.

Not much in the way of brainstorming (yet), but I am way into this idea. It'll give me something productive to do, and hopefully help me find some new crafty things to try. Yay!

Finally!

An outlet for my "Great Moments in Christian Trucker History" dryer lint dioramas!

MAKE zine/blog has a lot of interesting things to do... I don't go in for the crafty stuff much, myself, but maybe.... Wish I could knit. Then I could make zombies.

This is a potentially cool idea. Hmm. I dabble in many crafts but am proficient in none. Maybe I can cobble my dabbles together and make one, huge, half-finished craft.

Do cootie catchers count as a craft? Because I make cool cootie catchers.

Hey I just remembered that I know how to sew. Would anyone be interested in felt renditions of snakes on planes, monsters, zombies or bunnies?

I can make a bow-tie out of a dollar bill. (Or a $5 bill, but that costs extra.)

Maybe we should consider a paper crafts ring, what with the cootie catchers, bow-ties and airplaneys...

I knit but it takes me a thousand years to knit socks or mitts. I'd be in but I'm afraid the only thing I can knit in a timely manner is dish cloths.

I can hardly tie my own shoes. You guys have fun without me, and post pictures.

Well, I like making designs on the bar with the rings from my beer mug. I also like to melt stuff.

I am so there. I'm already planning on offering The Ugliest Scarf In The World (tm) to any bunny who will promise to give it a good home & pay postage in the fall when it gets cold again. Now I can swap a hat, or perhaps a lovely painted gourd birdhouse, or a mosaic table. . the possibilities are endless!

The one vaguely crafty thing I do is cross stitch. Anyone want a bookmark?

(alternatively I'm currently doing a big-ass Last Supper, but it will take me at least another couple of years)

This sounds fun, I'm in!

Oooo, mgl reminded me that I can do scarves. they're just like giant dish cloths and I can probably pump one out in a week or so.

And since my last post was vague, I'm in for crafty fun.

LF, that struck me as insanely funny. My cubies think I'm a freak.

Do they have lunatic fringe on them? If so, I want one!

I'm always puttering around in the workshop (aka Muppet Labs.) Optical and electronic toys. I just went through a phase of making lava lamps.
posted by warbaby 03 May | 09:41
This is gonna totally ruin our street cred.
posted by mullacc 03 May | 10:18
I can definitely do the fringe but I'm not sure how I would lunafy it. Maybe all sorts of crazy colours?

mike: Sorry that your cubies think you're crazy but glad I could make you laugh!

I totally want to do this, but I don't know if I have time to participate :(

I'm new to MetaLand...how would this work?

I knit pretty well, even if I am the world's slowest knitter.

I can do lovely origami, with beads.
posted by Miko 03 May | 10:41
Miko: that sounds neat. My sis loves the origami, all I can do are cranes.

iconomy: I didn't read your post about the felt thingies 'till two minutes ago! I would love a felt zombie bunny! I'll trade you for a giant dish cloth/scarf.

I'm designing an Eye of Sauron tea cozy. anyone interested?

I crochet vulvas, among other things. Yay swaps!

don't feel bad, tilda. They can have fun making stuff. We'll have fun breaking stuff.

Well. I can make a hat. I can make a broach. I can make a pterodactyl.

You can count on me.
posted by omiewise 03 May | 15:54
I'm in. Not sure with what yet, tho.
posted by krix 03 May | 16:24
Mike, I would really like that pterodactyl.

If this happened I'd be up for it. Small knitted things and jewelry, and other excuses to play with my mini-blowtorch.
posted by casarkos 04 May | 08:23
I do collages. I mailed out several MeFi MailSwap cards, but only got 1 back, so I am traumatized. But I'll try again.

We used to do this on alt.gothic.fasion years ago, it was so much fun!

The way we did it was everyone would sign up once the theme was announced. If it was a smallish item everyone would make one for each person in the swap. If it was a bigger thing, you'd make for one person (everyone would email the organizer in advance with favorite colors, etc).

but, in any case, count me in!
