And a lament:
The trouble with having lived in Israel and traveled in Egypt is that sometimes places and people you know are blown to smithereens. A disco here, a bus stop there; they all start to add up - they say you can't go home again, which I don't really buy, but for sure you can't go there again. It's gone.
I spent a few weeks on the Sinai Peninsula ten or so years ago, stopping in Dahab and Tarabin on the east coast. This past
Monday, two of my
favorite restaurants were bombed in the name of who knows what, and locals who I got to know and love were killed and maimed, and life, I guess, goes on. What do I do about it? I can't go getting the shakes every time I read a paper, and I can't sleep all that well, either.
I've been chewing on this all week. Sorry to spit it here. It's something worth thinking about.
