On the way home , I stoped at a corner store for libations for the evening.→[More:] This being the outer boroughs of NYC the coolers are always stocked with large cans and bottles of the latest sickly-sweet ghetto libations. Zima has been marketing flavored malt liquors for a while, with flavor names like Hard Orange, Hard Green Apple. The latest?

Hard Punch. Let's hear it for the marketing department. I bought 2 24oz cans. It tastes like Hawaiian Punch.

Mmm. This post made me think of hard cider. I love that stuff, 'cept it gives me bad hangovers from even modest amounts.

There's a place I go that gives you a garlic shoot instead of a celery stalk. Sounds crazy, but it works. Also I've had (well-rinsed) pickled okra as a garnish. Super!

A shot of a good tequila blanco with a shot of sangrita on the side is pretty close to a bloody maria. Mmmmm.

Divine Wino, that sounds like a recipe for feeling exactly the way a good Bloody Mary is supposed to *stop* you from feeling.

gaspode: Because airports and plane trips are for doing new things you've never done before. That's how I got hooked on tomato juice. I'd never had it before and on my first solo flight, I decided to have it since it was free.

Altitude screws with tastebuds, maybe, and between the tomato juice and the horseradish and the hot sauce, you can be sure it won't taste like water at thirty thousand feet?

I put a question mark at the end of that because, while I believe it to be true, it doesn't explain our motivation for ordering them (altitude and its relationship with flavor isn't at the front of my brain queue when I order on a plane).

Or maybe it's just that we don't want to order the Captain Morgan and Diet Pepsi we want for fear of appearing like the high-schoolers we are.

No way, gaspode, I used to drink that in high school, that's all. Diet Pepsi mixes best wi' the Cap, followed by Diet Coke, then maybe RC Cola. I don't like regular Coke with any kind of rum -- Coke's hint of cinnamon is a little rich for my blood.
