2 WinXP pro questions. [More:]1. When I go to Control Panel/add-remove programs, the list only populates programs starting with 'A'. I can get more to show up by changing the sort to 'date last used', but I'd rather nothave to do that. Any options?

2. My machine was set to boot directly to the desktop with no logon silliness. I installed Quickbooks yesterday, had to reboot after installation, now I have to click my username (but not enter any password info) to boot fully. How can I change it back?

Thanks in advance o resident genii.
I've seen #1 before, but I can't remember how I resolved the issue. On the top-right, there should be a drop-down menu re: Sort-By:____ does changing that make a difference?

Is windows explorer (the filesystem viewer) also show things by one alphabet at a time?

WRT #2 - it's possible that Quickbooks added an additional profile Deleting the newly made profile (start->settings->control panel->users and accounts->change the way users logon/off - might take care of the problem.

sorry - that should say either delete the extra profile AND/OR change the way users log on/off.

for logon garbage.

no idea about the add/remove programs thing, though.

For the Add/Remove Software Cpl problem:

Start -> Run -> type "cmd" to open a DOS window -> type "sfc /scannow" to activate the Windows Protected File checker. It should complete without exception. If it finds a problem, it will ask for your XP installation media.

This has worked for me in the past, although I do not know the exact mechanism. Presumably the scan does some preening of the registry keys that control the contents of Add/Rem cpl.

For automatic sign-in, there can only be one user profile on the machine, and it must have no password set.

no, he means in the latest windows we still have most of the same annoyances that were in Win95.

oh! thanks for the translation. I did manage to get the boot to desktop fixed but the stupid add/remove populate is still wigged. .V.
