Who gives a [pardon my french]!?? [More:]

This is the thread where I announce I'm back and ask everyone if they missed me. Then you guys try to cover the awkward silence by linking to interesting stuff from the past week. tia
I missed you! (Where'd you go?)

Williamsburg with the wife and kids.

I noticed you were gone. Disneyland? Welcome back.
posted by rainbaby 06 April | 09:32
Ah HA! Family vacation, just as I surmized! Hope you had a good time.
posted by rainbaby 06 April | 09:35
Damn straight I noticed you weren't here. That's why I was the one posting about Maryland winning the women's basketball.

Didja have fun?
posted by gaspode 06 April | 09:35
Yes, fun indeed. The family is almost as fun as you guys!
posted by danostuporstar 06 April | 09:37
Didja go to Jamestown too?

A bunny was within 50 miles of me. I knew I felt a great disturbance in the Force.
posted by mike9322 06 April | 09:41
Indeed, Hugh. I watched grown men blow glass.

Speaking of the Force, mike, I know you're all Vegas all the time, but whaddya (or anybody) know about this Asheville thing?
posted by danostuporstar 06 April | 09:50
The Asheville thing is under discussion. Mainly it is that I'm planning to throw a party in June or possibly July and/or Matildaben is coming to visit in the fall. So that is the Asheville thing. Dates to be avoided at all costs in June & July should be emailed to me; dates that are harmonically, astrologically, galactically and otherwise awesome should likewise be emailed. I was leaning towards the weekend of July 4th but I think I've been talked out of that by people with other plans. But a summer weekend party, yes yes. There's room to camp in my backyard; there are multiple marvelous motels around, there is all of Pisgah National Forest and so on.

dano, I missed hell out of you, and only avoided asking you about the absence via email because I figured that if it were something so mundane and harmless as a family vaca that you would have said.

This is the first I've heard of the Ashville thing, and it's something I could certainly do. I love Asheville. I might be able to arrange a rafting trip down the mighty French Broad (depending on water level) where I was a raft guide for a couple of seasons. It isn't much of a mighty river, but it's a fun float for free.

Did you bring us t-shirts?
posted by Frisbee Girl 06 April | 10:27
Will you fit in a build-a-bear sized shirt? If so, yes. I've got red and blue.

Asheville weekend thing sounds great!
posted by danostuporstar 06 April | 10:35
mgl, july 4th weekend bad! All other weekends in June/July good!
posted by mike9322 06 April | 10:43
Guys, you should carpool. Asheville is FAR!
posted by rainbaby 06 April | 10:44
Welcome back dano! I have a good friend who works in Williamsburg. He is Thomas Jefferson most of the time.

And add me to the pile for the Asheville thing! :D
posted by chewatadistance 06 April | 10:45
Holy crap, you're right rainbaby! Why did I think it was only around 5 hours for me? Google Maps says NINE! I'm still there but I will require extra whuffles.
posted by mike9322 06 April | 10:46
Yeah. A carpool loop would be a possibility, though.
posted by rainbaby 06 April | 10:56
We should rent an RV!
posted by danostuporstar 06 April | 11:02
That would be teh fun dano! I'm not driving though; those things scare the bejesus out of me. I hated driving the 20' truck when I moved.
posted by mike9322 06 April | 11:04
In theory, Omie and Dano could rent something, mike could meet at or around my place, Omie and Dano pick us up, we swing through and get chewatadistance in Raleigh.

I can't drive an RV either. A van, yes.

Very theoretical.
posted by rainbaby 06 April | 11:08
I am liking this theory, rainbaby. We shall explore it further. I would also be willing to drive a large van. Maybe we could even extend our reach to some NY folks; riding in a vehicle for 13 hours or so would be much better than driving that far.
posted by mike9322 06 April | 11:15
Put me on the list if you do it after July 26. And I'd be up for carpooling, since Asheville's about 13.5 hours from where I'll be then.
posted by amro 06 April | 11:24
from where I'll be then.

Which is central NJ.
posted by amro 06 April | 11:25
New York folks, you say...interesting.

*prefers the idea of Asheville to Vegas*
posted by gaspode 06 April | 11:32
I, too, am interested in attending an Asheville meetup. Not so interested in camping, but if there are motels around, that would be perfect.
posted by cmonkey 06 April | 11:51
Dude, not only are there beaucoup de motels, there's The Mountaineer Inn, which has, like, the best neon sign in the world.
posted by mygothlaundry 06 April | 12:45
That is a pretty slick sign. Sold!
posted by cmonkey 06 April | 12:51
Rafting!?!?! I can do up through Class 3 but no higher.
posted by matildaben 06 April | 13:14
I'm up for rafting. ASsuming this is set for a date I can make, I could drive a carpool starting in Southern Maine, and my car seats 4 comfortably, or 5 lovable bunnies.
