What is your favorite Snack Cake? [More:]
Without a doubt, Little Debbie Star Crunch is mine.
HoHos. *gurgle*

I don't eat snack cakes so I'll just say my favourite snack: Lays BBQ Chips! *drool*
posted by LunaticFringe 28 March | 08:35
Standard Lays BBQ? Mesquite? KC Masterpiece style?
posted by sciurus 28 March | 08:37
Tunnock's Teacakes.
posted by GeckoDundee 28 March | 08:38
Sorry. Forgot to warn of (very small) embedded flash in that link.
posted by GeckoDundee 28 March | 08:44
Just the standard Lays. Nothing fancy. I'm drooling thinking about that.

I put more thought into the snack cake thing and I used to love Jos. Louis (pronounce Joe Louis). I think they're a canadian thing though so most of you mecha-ers won't have experienced the tastey, chocolately goodness that was the Jos. Louis. Now I want one. Thanks Sci... :P

chips: sun chips
cakes: HoHo's, no doubt!

although I'm currently abstaining from either and trying to drop some tonnage. Last check I was 5 lbs down over about 5 weeks.
posted by chewatadistance 28 March | 08:51
Way to go, chewie! That's a good rate. Don't start dropping too fast, that's unhealthy!
posted by sciurus 28 March | 08:55
Chips: salt & vinegar (which I almost never eat due to the high sodium)

Cakes: Moon Pies (banana or chocolate)

Old but funny: Biology of Snack Cakes.

(I like the Hostess or Little Debbie fruit pies when I'm out on a long bicycle ride. Nothing like dropping 400-odd calories in your bod in about 4 bites of pie.)

Chips: Frito-Lays Munchies Traditional Mix.

Cakes: My local coffee shop of choice has these things called Oaties which are an oat cake with chocolate goo... it's indescribably good.
posted by selfnoise 28 March | 09:05
They aren't snack cakes, but I am completely enthralled with syrup waffles.

I'm more of a chips-and-salsa kind of gal. And edamame. Edamame's good. And cheese and crackers. Everything's better with cheese. mmmmmmm.
posted by JanetLand 28 March | 09:24
I usually go for salty snacks but if I must, kandy kakes, peanut butter flavor
posted by betty 28 March | 09:27
Edamame rules, but I cannae find it in Cleveland.
posted by sciurus 28 March | 09:28
Oh, you know what else is excellent? Homemade whoopie pies. Oh yes.
posted by selfnoise 28 March | 09:32
Twinkies!
posted by ThePinkSuperhero 28 March | 09:33
Selfnoise, you read my mind. Whoopie pies.
posted by initapplette 28 March | 09:33
I think at one point I would have said Twinkies, and at another Suzy Q's, but lately I've had an inexplicable fascination with the weird plastic taste of Tastycake Butterscotch Crumpets. Everything about them, from the icing that doesn't really stay on, to the sponge cake that feels at once too dense and too insubstantial, to the fact that there are three (3!) in a pack, has me wanting more. I'm ashamed.

HoHos and Ding Dongs. ; )

Moon Pie.
posted by sarah connor 28 March | 09:52
Do they still make Yodels? I was addicted to Yodels as a kid. These days I avoid Little Debbie like the missing Borgia link she so clearly is.
posted by mygothlaundry 28 March | 09:53
Urinal cakes. Tangy.

And they freshen your breath.
posted by dodgygeezer 28 March | 09:54
Is that why you're talking with an accent these days?

Lady Linda is queen of my heart. Alas, I haven't seen the brand "Quality You Can See" in far too long.

These bakeries in Brooklyn make Hostess and Little Debbie cakes as well as their own local knockoffs, which stay on the shelves for a much shorter duration than their national-brand counterparts, due to friendly pricing and factory freshness.

When I finish my time machine, I'm going to take a bag of these cakes to Louis XIV and win an appointment as Official Confectioner to the Sun King. They're so sweet and fluffy and good; I mean, there's no competition!

I don't splurge on this stuff often, but when I do...

My chips are State Line BBQ chips, pretty much available only in Massachusetts.

My snack cake: Second the Tastykake Peanut Butter Kandy Kakes. Mmmm.

My favorite actual snack cake: chocolate flavored Hostess Cupcakes.

My favorite virtual snack cake: DeepFriedTwinkies!

All about the Swiss Cake Rolls, which I think are the same as Ho Hos. I love peeling off the chocolate, then unraveling the cake to lick at the filling.
posted by TrishaLynn 28 March | 10:43
Caramel Ho-Ho's are good.
posted by jonmc 28 March | 10:52
Chocolate chip cakes. Chocolate cake, white frosting, and a sprinkling of choclate chips on top. YUM.
posted by chiababe 28 March | 11:26
Swiss Cake Rolls are the same concept as HoHos, and quite a bit cheaper, but cannot come close to the orgasmic delight that is the HoHo.
posted by mike9322 28 March | 11:31
Jaffa cakes. Or are they biscuits?

Those things are bad for you.

I make kick-ass deep fried twinkies. That said, partially thawed Ho-Hos are my favorite.
posted by eamondaly 28 March | 13:16
Hostess's Gem Donuts - chocolate flavour (although the powder sugar version is good, too). Ding Dong's (which are known as King Don's here in Canuckland) are another favourite.
posted by deborah 28 March | 13:53
I used to eat a box of those choco gem donuts and a two litre of Orange Crush as typical study food in college.
posted by sciurus 28 March | 14:00
There are caramel HoHo's?

We found some AWESOMELY orgasmic peanut butter filled malted milk balls the other day. I really love malted milk balls.

Balconi - Italians do cakes very well.
