amberglow has an impact week! Ok, so last night at the meetup, carmina came and i hooked her up with this cool bartender in Venice--Mary--and Mary actually remembered me from a few days last January! : >

and--the Guardian has been doing Never Let Me Go for their book club and i've been participating in the blog--well, the author of the book and this English professor who runs it had a talk in London the other day, and the professor read one of my comments to the author to get his feedback! isn't that cool?
[More:]
--the comment is here, and there's a podcast of the talk here.

Way to go! See where being insightful gets you?

*hi-fives amberglow*

It's like the time when one of my favorite bands dedicated a song to me during a show. I rode that high for weeks.

It was Mary and so much more, amberglow. The place you sent my sorry little whining self last week is (for those who don't know but I wish them they find out) a jazz bar in Venice near the Rialto bridge. A place where (mostly) American travellers meet. Older couples with lovely stories to tell, wandering students sampling the old world, aspiring artists, film professors, young kids out there to save the underprivileged. The new form of short-time expatriates in a city-museum. And of course, the locals, the true Venicians (musicians from the hundreds of classical ensembles or glass blowers from Murano). Them. Very nice.

Well, there's your 15 minutes right there. Now you can go back to being a nobody.

Just kidding - you have more impact every day than you realise.

What did Ishiguro say? I am curious but don't want to listen to all 39 min of the interview right now.

it goes really quickly, grouse--he didn't say much, really, nor was he really challenged...he talked a little--originally the book wasn't at all going to be the way it ended up...really didn't say that much--sounded really nice but wimpy.
