Spent the day with my mom's ex-stepfather (her mom and him got divorced in the 60's!). He's pushing 80 and is returning to Germany soon so wanted to see mom. We went to Ottawa and spent the day with him and then took him to the Lindenhoff for dinner. It was a good day despite all the misgivings I had!

Professional lacrosse in Portland is a kick in the shorts. Most of the guys on all the teams are Canadian, so chants of "Our Canadians kick your Canadian ASS" were, I am sure, the prime reason we won.

Last week Wonderboy and I explored a muddy, fairly polluted creek behind my college. It was a shitty gray day and I thought it would be boring, but Wonderboy (who is 6) was fascinated by everything--a lone deer track, a hole in the creek bank, a stubble of spring grass that had been munched on by some critter, a collapsed stone abutment for a long gone bridge. "Nature is so cool, Dad!" he kept saying. It was a great day, actually.
