I made a MeFi post about "In the Jungle, the Lion's Jungle " last year... [More:]Well, the relatives of the original composer [Solomon Linda] have just won their court battle over royalty revenue.

It's one of the most recorded songs in history and one of the most convoluted copyright battles as well.

Good news, if belated.

I didn't really think this was worth a MeFi or MeTa post necessarily - but when there's a bit more analysis around it might justify a reposting.

Cool, thanks for the follow-up. How've you been?

I love Solomon Linda's original version of Mbube. And I love MeCha, so I will share the one love with the other.

"stop the lion", he says.

Somebody did a version that went: hush my darlins, don't cry my darlins, the lion's on the phone and that ended up being the version I sang to my kids, who always loved it. I have no idea who did it.

omiewise: I had an itch.....I scratched it. Very pleasant thanks.

Actually I've been busy as all hell and away in Canberra for a couple of weeks so kinda nice to be home. Hope you're holding out after the bustup (I do read this place from time to time, without necessarily commenting). Bummer....also: opportunity!

Thanks fenriq - I'd only heard a snippet before.

I saw this in the paper, too, and thought of your post.

Now isn't there a similar tale involving a sample of a traditional singer from Taiwan on a song by Oasis ? I seem to recall a story about it on All Things Considered some years back.

Ah, it was Enigma. And that one only took three years to settle.
