Drink to the Dregs [More:]Two tunes from Steve Morse and The Dixie Dregs, from their 1979 album "Night Of The Living Dregs":

Leprechaun Promenade (3.8MB mp3)

and

Patchwork (4.7MB mp3)

I haven't listened to this kind of music in a while. I hope you dig it. This was recorded live at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1978. A vintage year if you dig John McLaughlin, I'm sure. I've always struggled with so much "fusion" but I love this guy's playing.
Back in the day the Dixie Dregs used to play my alma mater every year for something called the Bull Bash. It was sponsored by, yes, Schlitz Malt Liquor Bull, and it was just an excuse for a bunch of teenagers to get drunk as hell. It was ugly. It was fun as hell. We started going when we were still in high school; it was easy to sneak in. So I can't ever hear the Dregs without also hearing frat boys vomiting in the background. But that's not necessarily a bad thing.

I saw Dixie Dregs open for Dream Theater several years back. They put on a spectacular show - I was very, very impressed.
