I don't like the hunt either amberglow but it is an issue that is not easy to answer. The hunt started long ago and when it was stopped a number of years back the damage was devastating to the fisheries of the east coast(US and CA). It's one of those situations where we have alterd the ecosphere so much there is no simple way to backtrack.
There are no real predators of the seals other than man anymore. When the hunt was halted the seal population jumped and they ate massive amounts of young fish. We have made a mess of the eco system and I am not sure how we get things set right.
yup, but doesn't that give you hope? they'd be dead if they were American, and they're not--yet. I think they'll be ransomed or released, esp if we do withdraw for the nov. elections.
" doesn't that give you hope" to some extent. I think the only thing worse than the death of a loved one is the loss of a loved one and not knowing. Are they dead? Where are they? Are the alive? How are they? The not knowing is a pain that never ends until you have an answer.
Sharks, killer whales, and polar bears were the primary hunterd of the harp seal.
