This guy could be my late grandfather (not even thaaat far off in terms of eras). If he did keep any kind of journal (and he may have), it would read much like this.

How strange that it is so touching.

I wonder if he's related to this other John W. Simpson who is a relative of mine? Suppose it wasn't a very unusual name.
