Ask MeCha: Creepy spam email I get plenty of hot stock tips, earnest pleas for assistance securing vast amounts of funds, and offers to increase my libido, and they all get deleted, but this one creeped me out a little bit...[More:]The header says it came from "Lorraine Marshall", was sent to t[my real last name]77@hotmail.com, and was copied to me at [my real name]@verizon.net. The message in its entirety was as follows:

Ellie and I met Barbara at the mall. We walked around the mall one
time and then let Ellie play and ride rides. Barbara had to show so
Ellie and I went to Lubys. She ate great. I got her turkey this time
and, of course, macaroni and cheese. Everyone around her was
commenting on her and how cute she was. We hit Lubys around 5:15 and
that worked out a lot better because there was no line.

Then we came back to the apt. She played with Annabell and her carpet
sweeper. She went down without crying tonight after we read all her
books. And I love it when she first wakes up. I'm going to plan on
keeping her until after her nap tomorrow.

Lorraine

Needless to say, I don't know any Lorraine, Ellie or Barbara, or have any pets or children by any of those names. Viral marketing for Luby's cafeterias, or something more sinister? I can't tell! A quick bout of googling turned up nothing similar; has anyone else gotten anything like this one?
What makes you think it's spam? I've received mis-addressed but legit email before. If you have a remotely common last name, that might have happened. Hotmail has a SHITLOAD of users.

It's just that my verizon email is collecting a lot of spam since I had it printed on business cards and started using it to file papers with the Secretary of State in Massachusetts. Also, that I was supposedly cc'd on this email that was supposedly sent to someone with the same last name as me. The hotmail address isn't me; that's what made me think it was spam, intended to make me think that the email had been sent to someone in my family (even though no one in my family has a hotmail address).

Maybe I'm not making much sense. Hmmm.

I received something today. They said they were in your place all day, looking through your stuff.

Oh no! Did they MOVE any of it?!?! I HATE it when people MOVE my stuff!!!

Erm, okay. I'll just chill, then, and leave it deleted like I should have in the first place. Sorry to have been a bother.

You know what I hate? When people break into my house, model my underwear and take pictures of themselves in it with my camera. Jerks.

yhbc - yes, they moved stuff and wore fenriq's underwear while they were at it.

Sometimes I get spam that has text in plain text view, but if I look at it in html view, I get the ad payload. The text seems to be there to fool the spamfilter. Plus, Lorraine called - she says you *really* need some new underwear.
