Songs I had in my head today, Part II [More:]When one is not allowed to listen to headphones at work, one is subject to the worst kinds of earworms, people randomly bringing up songs, and things just popping into one's head.

I've started writing them down. Today wasn't bad. Once, again, some of these files are in m4a format, and you have my apologies.
Here's what I had in my head today:

The ride to work (only four blocks) was to the tune of the new Flaming Lips single, The W.A.N.D. (this is one of the songs that's an mp3). This was a particularly angry bike ride, but not because of the song.

Next, for no reason at all, I had Cat Stevens's Don't Be Shy in my head. I do a hilarious version of this song around campfires. This song is also an mp3.

After that came Ramble On (mp3), by Led Zeppelin. For about an hour and a half. Suddenly, I realized it was gone, which was too bad, because it had been replaced by Big Time Operator (m4a, so sorry), by the Dead Milkmen, which is a song that I don't even like. If only I could listen to headphones at work!

I intentionally purged the Dead Milkmen song with A Beer, A Song (mp3), by Granfaloon Bus. Several times, somewhere around the guitar solo, it merged into Country Joe and the Fish's Sad and Lonely Times (m4a). Then it became Blind (m4a), by Victor Krummenacher, which I haven't listened to in a long time.

But the Country Joe and the Fish song came back, and it ended... which lead into the next song on the album, Love (another m4a).

That ended around mid-afternoon when I got Empty Worlds (m4a), by Quasi, stuck in my head. This song was in there for several hours, but I didn't mind.

Then... darlene (m4a), by Slint. I have no idea how it got in there, since I haven't listened to it since last summer. Probably, someone said something like "do you know what they did?" and it got in there. This happens a lot.

Then I imagined using GarageBand to record my version of "Don't Be Shy", and got that song in my head all over again for the last half hour at work.

What did you have in your head today?

I usually have one earworm, constantly, for a week or so and then it changes. But wolfdaddy's 70s mecha radio show had an odd effect on me: every time I wake up and probably at other times as well, I have one of those 70s songs my head, a different one. Maybe it's because they were already there, deep in my memory, each listened to a thousand times.

Whoa! At this moment I don't have one! That was weird. Unfortunately, in wondering why I don't have one I thought of "Afternoon Delight". Sigh.
