Something you might like. I was looking for James Thurber illustrations on the web after seeing wimpdork's great stuff, and didn't find much... But I finally found "The Last Flower" (1939) - though really badly presented, with the images resized to be much too small... So I downloaded all 50+ of them and made a quick slideshow.[More:]

Click on the right side of each image to move forward. (Or, if Flash is a problem, here is an html page, or if you want it, you can download a .zip of the whole thing.)

This is much more straightforward and message driven than his wonderfully dotty off-the-wall stuff, but worth perusing, especially because he seems to be so relatively scarce on the net.

This was great to see again. Thanks for putting it together.

Here's a similar story, not in the best translation: Jean Giono's The Man Who Planted Trees.

Ah, omie! The Man Who Planted Trees! Nice - and yet another book I may or may not have!

Disgruntled Would-Be Artist: "Why do you keep publishing the work of that 3rd-rate artist Thurber?"

Harold Ross of The New Yorker: "5th-rate."

I've been trying to get wimpdork to do a Children's book with me (or without me) for AGES! Help me convince her, guys!

I'll back you up on that, Eid. I adore children's books... And, really, all the brilliant people end up doing one.

So you might as well surrender, WiDo.
