Say you want the afternoon off.... is it ok to get someone to phone your desk, and you answer and then say "oh no! Oh No! Oh my God!!!" grab your stuff and run out?

How many times a week would it be acceptable to do this?

Yes. Like, once every two years.

I am "off" today.

I ran errands, then decided to cook, which I don't do, and whenever I cook, I notice how much the kitchen needs cleaning, not like I don't have a clean kitchen, no dishes in the sink or anything, but I'm talking drawers and fridge and stuff, and I never get beyond the kitchen to the dog or the vacuum or the sheets or anything.

So.

Want me to call you with an emergency? I will.

Heh. Jrossi4r is a criminal mastermind. But I'll add this fillip: instead of waiting for him/her to ask you, the next day you go to the MLTN (most likely to notice), and say, in a peevish tone, "Where were you yesterday? It seems like I spent the entire afternoon looking for you."
