The Top End. Grey skies are gonna clear up...Update to this. I've been offered a job.→[More:]In Darwin. And it's a nice job, too - Research Associate in Landscape Ecology at the University there. We're just waiting for a letter detailing how much they're going to pay me and whether I get relocation allowance before we decide whether to move there; rent in Darwin is surprisingly expensive, but we've got our heart set on this place. Pool!

Excelent! Congratulations and I hear that Darwin is a pretty nice place to live, if fucking hot. All the fucking time.

$300 seems a bit steep - it is about what you would pay for a 4 bedroom house here, but I suppose the availability is limited up there, what with the cyclones blowing the houses down all the time.

Seriously, I really hope it pans out for you.

Are a lot of houses built that way (living space up, parking, etc. down)? A lot of coastal homes in Texas are built that way. And $300 is steep?! Seems cheap to me.

Probably seems cheap compared to what ol' jonmc will be paying in the Big Apple...but I'm used my current mortgage of $140 a week for a 3 bedroom house with a yard! A lot of houses in tropical Australia are built like that - airflow under the house helps keep them cool.
