My 'hood. Someone has put up a very cool website about my neighorhood of the last 16 years, Buford Highway in Atlanta.[More:] We used to live very close to the sign that was Photoshopped for the splash page (it's a garage that used to be named "El Motor").

The guy is right on in talking about how revitalized the area is, but it's in an off-kilter, SUPER-multi-cultural kind of way. In the 1990 census, this was found to be the most ethnically-diverse spot in the U.S. I love the cool restaurants, the Blade-Runner-esque Flea Market, and especially the people.
This is a great site. I am bookmarking it and will keep watching it while it develops.

I don't doubt it's diverse but Queens County, New York (my place of residence) is the most diverse county in America according to census. It's literally like a live-action version of the 'It's A Small World' ride at Dsneyland around here.

I don't remember the exact measurement, but the 1990 thing I'm thinking of was something like "most diverse square mile" or something... definitely not the county at large, although now 16 years on, the diversity has definitely spread beyond just Buford Highway. I remember reading it in the newspaper at the time.

The odd thing about Queens is that despite it's enormous diversity, it still maintains that Archie Bunker/King Of Queens gaucheness that repels the hipster kids. And I don't really hate them so much as I don't like how they make me feel under pressure to be interesting and au courant and shit. Who needs that noise. BTW, how's Ladies Man coming?

It hasn't arrived yet.

And yeah, Buford Highway is still not considered "cool" either, or as a friend of mine puts it, "Buford Highway doesn't KNOW it's cool." :)

I don't like the hipsters because they don't like, themselves.
