How is your Monday going? [More:]Mine has been strange. My co-worker didn't come in, and the phone was so quiet, I thought maybe it was Sunday. Meanwhile, after getting a new iPod I don't have the cord for this weekend, I come to the office... and there's the cord I need. Doh. Too bad I paid for express shipping on the new one. But at least now I can go home and hopefully put this whole iPod drama to bed.

So how're you, dear bunnies?
It's going alright, as far as a workday is concerned, but I can't seem to post on SpoFi, which is a bummer.

Well, I'm annoyed. Know why? Because I'm just now working my way through Buffy the Vampire Slayer, I'm on season 4, which happened like 5 years ago, and there's no one to talk to about it! I lurrrrve Anya. And Spike!

Otherwise, my Monday is pretty normal.

I'm in the middle of writing this horrid, tedious, long, legal article that is taxing the crap out of my brain. But I'm in a groove, which is good.

Unfortuntely, I've got to break the groove to pick up the kid from preschool. Then we have to take the cat to the vet. He's got a big, icky, goiter-type thing growing out of his neck.

In summary: legalese, pumped up four year old, goiter kitty.

posted by jrossi4r 27 February | 13:12
At the risk of seeming insensitive, I have to say that Goiter Kitty would make an excellent band name.

My Monday so far has been fairly standard. I woke up, had a bowl of Weetabix and a cup of tea. Next on the agenda: walking the dog. With any luck I'll have broken the back of a review I've been working on today, before I have to go to work.

My day is going well. This afternoon: work. This evening: beer with a close friend.

I'm on season 3 mike.

Monday has so far been a non event. Except for non life threatening injuries mentioned in another thread, so far, so good.

Wait till you get to season 4 Capn! So great. It takes a few episodes to get rolling but it's my favorite season so far, and I'm only halfway. I am dying right now waiting for the next disc to arrive from Netflix.

I am tired, down, and Meh. Also, it is too cold.

Monday is not bad for a Monday. Work is still boring, but at least it's not bad, just dull. I have a board meeting for our local uni/community radio station tonight, so that might be interesting, for a variety of reasons.

Now, back to migrating that web service to a new server. Woo. Hoo.

Not with my metabolism/energy level. ;)

I am actually working. At home. It's awesome. Be still, my heart. However, right now I'm trying to translate the ugliest flyer in the whole world (done apparently in Publisher or possibly Word, it uses no less than 4 separate fonts! Some all distorted and curvy! W00t!) into a small, discreet, attractive ad that won't draw attention to the fact that these people have no clue what they're doing.

I spent last spring & summer watching Buffy & Angel! I practically cried when I had to watch the last episodes.
posted by mygothlaundry 27 February | 13:49
I'm always willing to talk about Buffy. I can't believe you like season 4 the most. I will rank it above 7, certainly, maybe even 6, but I don't think of it fondly. My favorites are 3, 2, 5 in that order.

My friend just went through the whole series and he liked 7 a lot. I got the S7 DVDs for xmas but I found I couldn't watch it except for a few episodes. Maybe I should try again. It's still sorta fresh in my mind from when it aired, though.

I also went through the entire Angel series (again, mostly), but I couldn't make much headway into season 5. Smile Time is one of my favorite episodes of all time, though.

I was going to be kind of down on my Monday, but the painter guy next door is singing in Spanish. At the top of his lungs. He sounds so happy! I'm tempted to open my window and sing back at him.
posted by wimpdork 27 February | 13:55
Ha HA! I am successfully turning this into my own Buffy discussion thread! Sorry TPS

I *know*, MGL! I discovered Whedon via Firefly, which breaks my heart every time I watch the 14 lonely episodes. I'm already sad, and I'm barely halfway through Buffy and have yet to start Angel!

kmellis, maybe season 4 tanks starting on disc 4 - I dunno. So far, I await each disc with increasing excitement. I can almost feel Whedon really hitting his stride with this season. Admittedly, it's mostly Anya and Spike that are doing it for me - I never was very fond of Cordelia, and they, collectively, replace her brilliantly.

I did read somewhere that season 4 is the season whose quality is most debated.

wimpdork, that sounds great. I think knowing that is happening somewhere has improved my Monday.

Ditto, wimpdork- I wish someone was singing in another language at the top of their lungs here in this cube farm.

My Monday is good. My ex-bf just bought me really good tickets (graduation gift) to see David Sedaris in April. Last time I went to see him, at a book signing, the place was so crowded I could only hear his disembodied voice coming out of the middle of the throng of people.

I suppose this really isn't the place to admit to never watching Buffy or Angel. I adore Firefly, though. I hope that makes up for my lameness.
posted by deborah 27 February | 14:25
It's not too late, deborah. I hadn't watched them until a few months ago either. Bless the wonder that is television DVDs plus Netflix. I was skeptical that I'd like Buffy but I really, really do.

Kinda nervous. I also put in a new set of contacts today and they're a little irritating.

God DAMMIT I tried drinking caffeine because I'm very tired because I only got a few hours of sleep last night (it was mudpuppie's last night in town and we were celebrating) and I have to get a set of drawing out by the end of the day so I needed to be productive but instead of being productive I am now instead tired and jittery and feel like my heart is going to jump out of my chest and I can only pray that this wears off before I have to play in my pool tournament tonight!

Gah!

I need a milkshake and a whuffle.

I've had a good day. Got some decent work out, had a few laughs with co-workers, went to a lunchtime AA meeting to acknowledge my 7th sober anniversary, and had a Domino's Ay Caramba Fajita Pizza for dinner which was ridiculously expensive but just what I needed.

And although it's only coming up to 9pm, I'm going to bed soon.

I did read somewhere that season 4 is the season whose quality is most debated.

I've found that s4 lands in the middle quality-wise for most people. Like kmellis, I'm surprised you prefered it to s2 and especially s3. The trouble with s4, for me, was that s2 and s3 are so damn good that the next season was bound to be a bit of a letdown. "Hush" is brilliant, however. So are the Faith episodes, "Wild at Heart," "Fear, Itself" and "Superstar." But there are some stinkers. And there's Riley, who I never much liked.

s6 tends to be the most polarizing (in my experience), mostly, I think, because of Spike. A significant faction of the fandom loves him and wants to see him in every scene. s6 and s7 were good for many of those people. I'm not a part of that faction myself. So, s6 and especially s7 were, for me, less than steller.

I'm actually in the middle of rewatching Angel at the moment.

Today is weird. I got my first poli sci test back. Not good and very annoying. I made a stupid test strategy mistake and it made me go from the highest grade in the class to one of the lowest. Meh. Took a spanish test. Think I did well enough. Went to the grandmother's and began planning for the summer/next fall. The good is that I'm moving on campus which is will MUCH more convienient. The bad is that I have to find a new home for my dog. Sad.

S4 had some good episodes. But some of the worst, too. It was very uneven and the serialized plotline was very poor—Adam and everything related to him sucked.

Except that when BuGiWiXa kicks Adam's ass, that's freakin awesome. They should have done that more often. Woulda kicked the ubervamp's butt right quick.

S6 and S7 both fail because the season arc in each was very uneven and I don't think there's many really good episodes to make up for it. Other than OMWF, which is probably my favorite hour of television, ever. Buffy told me I can sing along, and I do.
posted by kmellis 27 February | 17:41
See, I haven't met Adam yet. So season 4 could take a turn for the worse yet. So far, love it. In retrospect, we'll see.

I read a whle ago that Adam was an ad hoc addition to wrap up the season quickly. I think Professor Walsh suddenly wasn't available or somesuch. With that in mind, I cut them some slack.

s6 and s7, not so much. OMWF (almost!) single-handedly redeems s6's many shortcomings. I bought the soundtrack as soon as it came out and I must have listened to it, wow, at least 50 times. s7, though, I pretty much hated (disclaimer: I missed a few episodes and didn't care to catch them later); the recaps at Television Without Pity were the only reason I watched as much as I did. Which I recommend you take a look at, mike9322, if you like snarky commentary.

My Monday wasn't bad at all. I noticed that I'm getting better at my asanas, got a good result at Weight Watchers, and bought a really nice leather jacket at less than half price in Tesco. So for the first time in $DEITY-knows-how-many years, I'm under 16 stone, and I've finally (after, ooh, a decade of wanting one) bought a leather jacket.

Oh yeah, and I watched Serenity today. Damn, but those studio types at Fox are dumb - they cancelled a perfectly good series... and if I hadn't heard Joss himself say it, I would never have believed that movie only cost $37 million.

The upside to my Monday - when I'm working, Monday is my day off. I get my weekend a day late, but at least I don't have to put up with the same Monday-morning blues that most folks do.

Buffy...

Also, we learn that the actress who plays Professor Walsh was not carefully playing a character without much affect in Mamet's House of Games. She's just not much of an actress. HoG still worked, though, in my opinion.

She was like a dog going back to its own father vomit.

(And I don't make a habit of staying up late... actually, last night was the first time I've been on IRC in years. Despite not being tired, I think I was asleep as soon as my head touched the pillow, too, though that might be due to the serene feeling I get sharing a bed with the cats.)
