What's that one, you know, the one about not living below sea level with shoddy levees the only thing keeping you dry? A couple copies of that one would be good.

Also, they've said they could use the cash more than donated books at this point.

Either way, this as good an idea as Bookcrossing. I've already passed it on to many! THANKS!

Yeah, money makes more sense than books. Librarians are highly trained in selecting items for the catalog - they don't need your old SF paperbacks.

Hmm, so they don't want my complete collection of Sweet Valley High Books? Well, too bad for THEM! ::scoff::

What a great thing to do - especially by those who are cash strapped. And anything not suitable for the shelves is still useful.

That was a misprint. It should have read: "New Orleans needs BOOBS."

Please help.

How's it going down there, CC? Dreary lack of boobage, or business as usual, or too soon to tell?

I've decided that it's like this:

Everyone is patiently waiting for the city to die.

I see this all the time. When someone is terminally ill and in the hospital, people won't visit. They make excuses and promise that they'll come soon. But they never really do.

When the funeral comes, everyone beats their breast and sobs and says they should have spent more time--if I had just one more day, dammit.

Nobody wants to see the city struggling.

I don't think the patient is terminal yet, but I may just be deluding myself. Mardi Gras will be one deciding factor.

way too depressing cc...but true probably--it's a sin and a shame.

i could see it becoming more vegas-y, which would bring jobs and money in, but that won't help the housing situation for normal people.

i think it's definitely going to become a majority-white place, unlike before--they haven't even brought a single trailer in to house anyone, and it was lower-class neighborhoods that were hit hardest in the city.

And even in the suburbs around, resources weren't sent--even now--6 months later. they're still doing an appalling job.
