I'm getting my pulse in my face. Under my left eye. How do I make it stop?
It's too late. You already drank too much caffeine - am I right?

It's a tic. Relax, breathe, go for a walk, drink some herbal tea, do some yoga.

Stick a fork in it.

I don't drink caffeine on a regular basis. So, no, no caffeine.

Lacking sleep?

I would google it, but whenever I google small things like this, I find out I have horrible diseases. The tip of my nose was buzzing one day, and you know what Google said I had? ALS. Frightening.

It's possible the sleep thing is an issue- I haven't been sleeping well for a week or two, and I'm not really sure why. Might be the weather, and its effect on the temperature in our house.

It'll go away. I get it all the time, and I drink very little caffeine. Nothing to worry about.

TPS: A friend of mine had the same type of thing - his persisted for weeks while he was trying to get a new job. Eye doctor told him it was nothing to worry about, just an annoyance that can be brought on by any number of stressors and in any degree.

On the other hand, maybe it's a tumor.

I only know of one way to stop a pulse, but it may be a little extreme in this case.

I get it when I've been internalizing a lot of stress without realizing it. It's my body's way of telling me I need to chill.

It's stress. It will make you feel like you're crazy, but don't worry about it. Why do our reactions to stress cause more stress?

My first answer aside, don't worry about it. Tics like that happen when you lack sleep, or are stressed, or are stressing out your body in some way (caffeine, pills, bumps, skydiving).

A buddy of mine in Japan (from Scotland) got a tic in his eye that wouldn't go away, went to a doctor who diagnosed him with MS, tried to no avail to get a second opinion (not really possible in Japan), said his tearful goodbyes, and went home sad and scared. When he went to the neurologist in Edinborough, he was told not to worry, nothing was wrong, he just needed rest.

Don't worry, you just need rest.

But if it makes you less stressed, get a second opinion.

Eat a banana and have a good snogging.

Best answer = sciurus.

Except that I don't have a banana or anyone to snog (unless one of my co-workers wants to volunteer).

Drink a couple mugs of coffee, you'll be fine.

your palm? mash it about in the area, generally.

Tonic water and Angustura bitters

and you're ugly, too.

*volunteers*

God, I remember the last time I snogged someone to cure their pulsating eye tic. It didn't work, but I do love my son despite his giant pulsating head.

Everyone's thinking that it's a muscle twitch, but what if TPS really is feeling her pulse below her eye?
posted by kmellis 20 January | 12:37
Yea, it's definitely a pulsing feeling, going on regularly enough that it seems like it's my pulse.
posted by ThePinkSuperhero 20 January | 12:57
We definitely don't want her pulse to stop. Also, please don't stick a fork in it. I'm with the crew that says relax...cues Frankie Goes to Hollywood.

Yell at someone. A good, spittle-flying, finger-jabbing, sailor-mouthed yell can really do wonders.

WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU LOSERS! SITTING AROUND HAVING TIME TO GIVE ME ADVICE ON MY STUPID PROBLEMS!!! I HATE YOU ALL!!! WHY DON'T YOU JUST CURL UP AND DIE??? I WISH YOU WOULD!

You're right, Triode, I really do feel better :-D

It is not your pulse. It is a South American Burrow Fly larva working it's way out of your skin. The eggs are so small that they can be inserted into a pore in your skin (typically while you sleep) and then the larva feeds until it is ready to emerge. HTH. HAND.

SNAKES ON A MUTHAFUCKIN PLANE!

Thanks, weretable and the undead chairs, I feel a lot better.

Ha, I'm totally making out with that cow. Problem solved! Woo woo, come here, big momma....
posted by ThePinkSuperhero 20 January | 14:26
I'm totally late for any advice (you're tired and/or stressed) but damn, who knew cows didn't have top teeth?!
