Machines sure have eliminated a lot of really bad jobs. Two of the jobs I'm glad don't exist anymore are core memory threader and bottom saywer on a pit saw. The first is how RAM was made after tubes. People used to hand thread three extremely fine wires thru the centre of little tiny ferrite doughnuts. The second dates from the pre industrial timeframe. Guys used to rip trees into boards with massive rip saws 8' long ad a foot wide. The ripping would be done with the log supended over a pit. One guy would operate each end of the saw. The guy who lost the toss got to be in the pit where all the saw dust rained down on him.
