Random Radio Laundry Purely random and from a folder I like to call "Metachat YSI." Yes. [More:] Alas, there is not going to be a setlist unless somebody who is better at winamp than me tells me real quick how to get winamp to generate one. Last time I typed it out myself but this is a) longer and b) I'm baking a cake, so I can't type. Keep in mind that at some point I turned on the random feature in winamp and I have never figured out how to turn it off. So, random. Cheers!
Nice! I woke up from my nap, hit refresh, and there was Gillian Welch.

Click the button in the lower right hand corner of winamp and select "Save List". Save the playlist somewhere on your hard disk. Open Notepad and drag the file into Notepad (or text editor of your choice; I use TextPad). Click "Save As" and change the extension to .txt.

At this point I use global search and replace to replace commas with line breaks, but your text editor may not provide that option.

So you start out with something that looks like:

#EXTM3U
#EXTINF:206,Pixies - Stormy Weather
\My Music\iTunes Music\Pixies\Bossanova\13 Stormy Weather.mp3
#EXTINF:208,Neko Case - Buckets Of Rain
\My Music\iTunes Music\Compilations\Sweetheart 2005\03 Buckets Of Rain.mp3
#EXTINF:150,Creedence Clearwater Revival - Who will stop the Rain
\My Music\iTunes Music\Creedence Clearwater Revival\De Complete Top 2000\236 Who will stop the Rain.mp3

Replacing the commas with line breaks gets you:
#EXTM3U
#EXTINF:206
Pixies - Stormy Weather
\My Music\iTunes Music\Pixies\Bossanova\13 Stormy Weather.mp3
#EXTINF:208
Neko Case - Buckets Of Rain
\My Music\iTunes Music\Compilations\Sweetheart 2005\03 Buckets Of Rain.mp3
#EXTINF:150
Creedence Clearwater Revival - Who will stop the Rain
\My Music\iTunes Music\Creedence Clearwater Revival\De Complete Top 2000\236 Who will stop the Rain.mp3

At that point, you can just delete the first line, and then delete the lines that start with #EXTINF and with \My Music\etc., and you'll be left with a tracklist.

Or you could go to the button that says MISC on it (on my classic skin it's at the bottom of the player) and click on it, and pick MISC OPTS and then pick Generate HTML Playlist. That doesn't save the playlist as matildaben's suggestion does, but it is a quick way to get a physical list to paste someplace. Very easy peasy - instant list!

You probably have your player set to 'Shuffle' - you can undo that in Options if you want. Right-click somewhere at the top of your player and pick Options from the menu that pops up.

Your other, much easier option is to click the button at the bottom called MISC twice. A menu should popup with the option to GENERATE HTML PLAYLIST. Alternatively, my WinAmp says that CTRL + ALT + G will do the same thing.

Cool! I'm giving it a shot & we'll see how it goes. Meanwhile, if anybody with a real radio set wants to get on, just post & I'll stop - fortunately my computer is in my kitchen, so I can bake & post almost simultaneously.

What are you baking?

Okay, the list it generates from the misc. button is just the list of what's in the mecha YSI folder, not in the order it's playing. Maybe matildabens' method will work; hold on. . .

iconomy - it's the chocolate orange guinness cake somebody posted here a while back? I can't remember who posted it but I was intrigued enough to try it, so we shall see!

That sounded incredible, I remember it! Yum.

With the HTML generated list, you have to opt out of shuffle, so that the order that the songs are in on Winamp is the order that they play in. I forgot to mention that.

Your kitchen is going to smell so good soon...

Well, whether or not we get a setlist, it's an audio metachat portrait. I've been saving probably 90% of all the YSIed stuff since June - 152 songs so far and counting. ;-)

Can we get on IRC and eat up the cake with you?

Yep, in any case of generating the playlist, it will go based off of everything that's in your Winamp playlist window, so if you've got the whole folder in there and are shuffling it, it will generate the playlist of everything that's in the window in the order it's currently listed in, not the order it played in.

P.S. Thanks for the generate HTML playlist tip. That'll be a lot easier.
posted by matildaben 14 January | 21:48
Nope, matildabens method also generates it in original order. It's better random - really, really it is, so no setlist, sorry!
