Me Want BAAAAAD! warning, Mac fanboy post.→[More:]The new Intel based G5 powerbook is a sweet, sweet machine from the built-in iSight to the MagSafe connector. I want one and I want one now.

And it hurts that it is so substantially faster than my current 15" Aluminium model. But at least I didn't just get a new iMac, then I'd be pissed about the new speedier and same priced iMacs.

But...but...is there even anything new and fancy that runs on it? New version of Final Cut (for example) won't be until the summer I think, and I doubt it will be a major upgrade anyway apart from the Intel compatibility.

I want the new iMac. Alas, I will wait until at least some of the major programs get native Intel versions shipping: Adobe Creative Suite, Office, Mathematica, etc...

I don't want no stinking emulated Adobe software, that stuff is a dog as it is. Of course, it's not like I can afford new licenses, so in reality I'll be waiting for a long time.

With a toddler who likes to play yank Daddy's computer cords, heck no, I'm genuinely excited about a cord that breaks away easily and without damaging the computer.

And I have no worries about the extra speed, I can use it right now to organize my 12000 photos in iTunes faster. Or frag my pals alot more efficiently. But I really like the built-in iSight, that's just cool.

As for the speed, I have a friend who works on the Apple project at Intel. He states that old, unoptimized versions of software, with debug code on, still run slightly faster on the macbook than on the powerbook.

puke & cry, the difference between this and crack is that you can smoke up all the crack and you need more. You can smoke this thing all day long and its still got plenty of love to give.

That break-away power connecter is pretty sweet. A large percentage of the (WinTel) laptop problems I see come across my helpdesk are from problems with plugs.

People stand up and try walking away with network cables still connected, trip over power supply cables, etc.

But, can it boot Windows? I know it'll do linux, if not now, real soon now, but can I finally natively boot OS X and Windows on the same machine?

That'll be a killer box when it happens.

Ok, now I want a Powerbook. OS X, Linux and Windows all running natively on the same HD? Fuck yeah. The amount of software and peripherals available would just be... fuckmindedly staggering.

Man, I was this close to getting a Powerbook for college then changed my mind and got a laptop because my Dad's company had this special deal with Dell or something. Now, half a year later it's slowed down a whole lot and is due for a massive overhaul. Hmmpf. I still love having it though, even if some days it makes me feel like a battered housewife.

Anyway, my point to all this is that my next computer will definitely be a Mac, and hopefully something sweet like this.

loq: Booting Windows may be a ways off, as the MacBook uses EFI rather than a BIOS, and there is no support for using EFI in WinXP (at least not on 32-bit Intel). There will be support in Vista.
