What can you see right now without moving your head? I have nothing to do at work other than wonder this about you, internet denizen.
My screen. The wall of my cube. Water Tanks atop a building across hudson street. a half-eaten cookie. an empty Camel Lights pack.

My screen, my file cabinet and the back wall of my cube, my calendar (dogs!), my bottle of Vanilla Bean Noel body lotion that apparently makes the whole area smell like cookies, my candy jar, our lockers. : )

Screen, keyboard, box, speakers. Two empty coffee (well, in my case tea) cups. Four books on birds, some CDs, a pile of (unpaid?) bills, some cute aminal pix, lint roller, tiny rubber ducky, a couple of groovy stones one of us picked up somewhere. The hummingbird feeder. The very tip top of our bay tree. The railing of the deck. Various trees (pine, maple, ash, plum, what i'm guessing might be a cedar). The crane that's working on the school down the hill. The other side of the valley. Dark clouds

From left to right: Work "Holiday" card, two speakers, files, papers, telephone, two pens (red, black), monitor, below monitor: cascading stylesheets 2.0 programmer's reference, pencil, green pen, keyboard, hands, mouse. Up and to the right: HTML pocket reference lying open face down, bottle of Poland Spring water w/tap water in it, lamp, open to-do notebook. In the "distance" my glass wall to the hallway (and the other office beyond that), the door closed w/my coat hanging on the back. Now my eyes hurt, and thanks for the reminder!

Monitor, amethyst crystal on top of monitor, keyboard, printer, cable modem, mouse, mousepad that looks like an oriental rug, flash card reader. Heaps of old CD boxes, empty coffee cupt, dirty sort of broken venetian blind over window, branches seen vaguely through that blind. Copy of the Mountain Xpress. Another pile of CDs, with Sword of Nations on top. The ugly ceramic pen holder I made. The edge of one of my son's drawings on the wall. And, best of all, the edge of the pile of my newly arrived Amazon books (yay! yay!)

In addition to the computer and standard cube trash, I can see over the divider and out the window.

The window needs to be washed, and was last washed 4 months ago. There is a hotel across the way. A few rooms have open windows, but very few have open curtains. Windows are tinted. Beyond the hotel, and lower, is the convention center. It has big red pipes on the roof, like a ship.

Past the hotel is the horizon, which I estimate is 7 miles away. It is so flat that you can see the earth curve. On the horizon to the southeast is a chemical plant or refinery. To the east is a coffee warehouse and roaster.

Cars driving on the streets make little sunshine twinkles.

I can see a lot... maybe too much to mention. Well, let's see: On the desk, two monitors, keyboard, green glass banker's lamp, many CDs, candle, eyeglasses, ashtray, lighter, cigarettes, glass of red wine, phone, earphones, carved ivory ball, clear superball with a fish in it from Shane, small wooden box, hair comb, small silver elephant, small onyx rabbit, terra cotta jar with pens and pencils, pocket knife, strange rocks my husband gave me, business cards, kleenex, postcard with Josephine Baker on it, mouse, stylus and pad, brass kaleidoscope.

Off the table: two lamps (one is a gauzy cloth-covered, square, orange one on the floor, that makes it feel extra-cozy in here) very large abstract (handmade dyed paper) artwork, carved wooden couch with red cushion and Eastern-design embroidered pillows, art-painted dress form, paper chinese lantern in a box, some kind of equipment bag belonging to my husband, AC/heater high on the wall, comfy chair with a black and white batik throw on it, and my husband's suede jacked hanging on the back of it, and the remote control for the room ac/heater and a black crocheted bag on the seat of it.

Out the window, the square behind my house, and part of the fountain there (it's night and the fountain is lit up with changing lights and colors) the buildings across the square, lots of Christmas decorations still up - pretty! The lights from the village on top of Horiatis mountain. I like it here.

My agent's smiling face as she tells me that the screenplay based on my memoirs just got optioned at Paramount for 2.5 million dollars and Steve Martin wants to direct, and possibly star.

I am sitting at my dining table. I see my iBook screen directly in front of me. I can see just the edge of a bucket of bromate behind it, which I've got to remember to add to the hottub. The test strips are in a bottle to my left, as is a blue spiral-bound notebook and a drinking glass. Oh, and it looks like a crappy common screwdriver is on the table as well, for reasons I couldn't explain.

To the left is a Kleenex box, a cheezy year planner with kittins on the front, the telephone which I expect will ring within the next half-hour (a kid wanting a ride to a friend's house), and beside that, a napkin. Then there's the local newspaper and advertising fliers, and at the far end is my wife, who is reading a book by, IIRC, Ian Rankin.

I can also see into the darkened livingroom, and there's a half-wall that has some Christmas decorations that we should take down. And, finally, to the right and out the patio door windows are the twinkling lights of part of our town, down and across the valley.

My left elbow rests on a folded cloth napkin, 'cause otherwise it grinds into the table and hurts.
