I installed the new patch. So far it's seems to coexist happily with the 3rd-party patch, so I guess I'll just leave both on there.

didn't the third party patch recommend uninstalling it before applying the official one? that's what I did, anyway.

Thanks for the link, puke & cry. I just uninstalled the third party patch and installed this one. Thank you, third party patch guy, whose name I can't remember right now.

How do I know it's actually installed? The third party patch showed up in my Add and Remove Programs list, but this one is not.

iconomy: look for a Windows hotfix numbered 912919.

FWIW, I rebooted, installed the official one, rebooted, uninstalled the unofficial one, reregged the .dll, and rebooted again.

Thanks, trondant. I guess I have to reboot again.

Now the link to the third party patch has been taken down, and this new one doesn't seem to actually install, so I have NO patch. WTF?

ico, is the 'show updates' box checked when you go to the add/remove panel? It's at the top on XP and not an option at all on 2K.

Oh geez. No, it wasn't checked. I kiss you! I can stop crying profusely now ;)

Guilfanov, Ilfak Guilfanov. He likes his third party patches shaken, not stirred. Ilfak Guilfanov is his name, third party patches his game. Ilfak Guilanov bo buck, banana fanna fo Ilfak Guilfanov, fee fi fo Ilfak Guilanov, Ilfak Guilfanov.

That patch was a really nice piece of work so he should get some credit. So thanks, what's your nameIlfak Guilfanov! And thanks puke & cry for this first? second? party patch from those Marcosports guys or whatever.

The 3rd party and the official one coexists well.

The 3rd party prevented GDI32 from receiving the request to run code when an error in the WMF is encountered. The official one prevents the call from being made when an error in the WMF is encountered.

I suspect that some legacy Win16 (Win3.1, maybe Win95) programs that deal with graphics might get broken with either/both of these patches.

Boy, I make a big deal about Ilfak Guilfanov's name then I get it wrong. Twice.
