Help me identify The Perfect Lamp! I've seen it, but don't know what it's called or where to find it.[More:]The people at the office next to us to had them, before they moved out (why I didn't ask them, I don't know). They were desk lamps, and they were just round white half-spheres, lit up from the inside. I've tried googling various combinations of globe, desk, lamp, round, light- without finding exactly what I'm looking for. Help me not have to sit in the dark anymore.
Have you gone to the City Knick?

Meanwhile, I'm searching.

It doesn't look like any of those, iconomy (but thanks!)- it's just a round thing sitting on a base.

Almost like a globe.

Something like this only upside down and with a base?
posted by sciurus 05 January | 12:00
Not a globe but still cool.
posted by sciurus 05 January | 12:02
Yea, that's exactly what it looks like, sciurus! Except upside down, so it's sitting on the desk.

Do you press on the globe part to get it to light?
posted by sciurus 05 January | 12:04
This?
posted by sciurus 05 January | 12:07
I don't think you press on the globe to get light; I know what you're thinking of, but this thing is bigger than that.

Like you posted before, it looks just like this but upside down.

Here's a full sphere table lamp. Lightology has tons of fun table lamps like that.

I want this.
posted by iconomy 05 January | 12:22
Did it look like this? (this is fun)
posted by iconomy 05 January | 12:23
Or this?
posted by iconomy 05 January | 12:25
Yes, eamondaly, that's in the neighborhood of what I saw! I can't believe they're so expensive though?
posted by ThePinkSuperhero 05 January | 12:27
Oh so there's really no lamp base to speak of - what you see basically is a white half ball on a table?
posted by iconomy 05 January | 12:29
Yes- I guess the word "base" was misleasing.

Oh crap, I saw a lamp like that about 4 minutes ago but I can't remember where or how I found it! Crappity crap.

This lamp from Ikea is sorta sorta, and affordable.

I like that Ikea lamp!

But what does it mean when they say "Light source is sold separately"?
posted by ThePinkSuperhero 05 January | 12:43
No bulb, maybe?
posted by iconomy 05 January | 12:46
Here's a photo of it in an environment. I want it too, plus one from the children's page - the one shaped like Saturn that reflects colored stars on the walls. I have to have that!
posted by iconomy 05 January | 12:49
Ikea, $9.99

$9.99! Yes! That is what I'm talking about!

You guys all rock :-D

Now an E26 bulb, is that the normal sort of bulb I can buy at any drugstore? Or is that something weird?
posted by ThePinkSuperhero 05 January | 13:47
E26 is basically an appliance bulb, like in an oven. Standard Edison base, small globe.

I would like to take this time to encourage your to purchase energy-efficient lightbulbs. They cost a bit more, but last longer and save your electric bill.
posted by sciurus 05 January | 14:07
(Thinking aloud) How many other pieces of day-to-day technology make use of the same physical connector that they did a century ago? The "Edison base" goes back that far, but not very many others, I'd wager.

What's a "half muslim"? || So....what are you doing tonight?
