As I gaze around before leaving work for the day:
One computer/LCD
One Laptop
One IP phone
2nd computer and LCD
Assorted pics of my three girls and some of the younger ones' artwork
A windup monkey with cymbals (I love him and Sophie stole the flipping kangaroo back last time she was here!)

water
glasses cleaner
Assorted papers, dossiers, etc.
actually, no dossiers, but I thought it would sound cool

There is nothing of interest on my desk. Unless you count four or five trade ticket pages that are waiting to find their home (they'll wait a little longer and like it). Oh yeah, and stacks of pages analyzing my employer's daily foreign currency swap collateral variances versus those of it's counterparty's.

in short, soul-crushingly boring crap fouls my desk.

A can of Edge shave gel (that was packed in the wrong box when I moved but I've never gotten around to taking to the bathroom even though it's only 10 steps away, but that would require me to consider organizing and cleaning the bathroom...)

The user guide for the Pod Producer program which will be central to the next edition of Wendell wadio

Two overpriced limited edition box sets of Rupert Holmes and Ken Nordine's Word Jazz, which will also feature prominantly in the future Wadio.

A small pile of unlabeled CD-ROMs that may or may not have relevent stuff on them, victims of my past failure at organization.

The rent check for my new landlord, who is being almost unbearably cool about everything. Checks for the cable and telephone companies, who are not.

Otherwise, the usual suspects: plastic popcorn box full of pens and scissors, small watermelon colored dish containing pocket change and keys, warm beverage on plastic coaster, pieces of paper that need to be either filed or thrown away.

Yep, I need something fuzzy on my desk (and not like the something fuzzy on the floor behind the deask).

Many books, Many papers, an orange, a broken ipod that's about to get its ass kicked. A can of Budweiser, many faxes, many check stubs, my Jacob Casanova Prague writers festival moleskine, current catalog, a jar full of nuts and bolts, a plastic fish, a monitor, keyboard, mouse, G4 tower, a sharpie, five screwdrivers, needle nose pliers, a color printer, a cellphone, a can of WD40, a reading stand, a dvd burner, two firewire hard drives, a teddy bear that I think belongs to my sister, several sections fo the NY times that people keep leaving on my desk, one open to an article about the cops using FLIR to watch people hump on the balcony, two more tool wallets and a book bound in cardboard with the words "An Encylopedia of Crime" handwritten in sharpie on the spine.

I work in publishing, in case you can't tell from all the hardware.

Too much crap.
Telephone.
Dictaphone.
About a dozen or so dictaphone tapes.
Nameplate.
Business card holder.
A couple of paper weights.
A candle warmer with a vanilla candle on it.
Blackberry.
Car keys.
The rest is just covered 6 inches high with paper.
Cases, notes, depos, correspondences, rough drafts.
A damn brief that I can't bring myself to finish that I have been procrastinating on way too damn long.

Question: I can't focus today. I think it is because I gave up caffeine for New Year's, and I think I'm in withdrawal. Headaches, can't focus.

How the hell am I going to get this brief done when I can't focus because I am in caffeine withdrawal?

Hello Kitty, dressed in a panda suit

It was a present from my sweetie, who's a big Sanrio fan. I checked Sanrio, Jlist and DreamKitty, but to no avail. It's quite possible it's no longer being manufactured.

Laptop, mouse, LCD screen for extended desktop.

Two cable strippers, two RJ-11/RJ-45 crimpers, 500 foot box of solid core Cat-5E.

Miscellaneous CDs and floppies, including two CDs with the hexblog WMF exploit patch.

Huge ass power strip, ethernet hubs, multiple "C-Clamp" style access nodes with Cat-5 jacks and grounded plugs.

Repaired laptop power supply belonging to a student that was chewed on, mangled and severed by her dog.

Assorted pens, stickies, staplers, etc.

At home my desk has 3 monitors, two laptops, 1 keyboard and mouse, and is buried about a half foot deep in CDs, cables, headphones, gadgets, papers, ashtrays, empty cups and other junk. And possibly a cat or two. It looks nothing like the picture I posted in a previous desk thread some months ago, and probably hasn't been properly cleaned since then.

Wow. I can't believe the student got mangled like that, but I'm sure it wasn't the dog's fault.
