Dame! I did it! [More:]But not with great results. I was a little scared when I got out there. There were already two people in a lane and I didn't know what was kosher. Then I overheard someone say it was three to a lane.

So, I hopped in the "slow" lane but I wasn't very good at pacing myself. That said, my strokes weren't as sloppy as I expected. But pace proved to be a problem because I would have to stop and catch my breath every couple of laps (stupid sexy cigarettes) -- which fucked up the rotation for it was puff, puff give.

I mean...that was something else. So anyway, when the mean guy would come up behind me he would get all worked up for no other reason other than the fact that I wasn't maintaining proper lane etiquette.

All in all, I'd say I did about 10-15 laps (honestly maybe more maybe less) and I am feeling it EVERYWHERE. (Small lap pool too, so it was a pretty lame first attempt.)

I'm tired but the endorphins are cooking.
I remember from the couple of times that I've gone back to swimming that you will improve *really quickly*. Usually when I start again I can only manage 15 or so laps but I get up to 40 in about 4-6 weeks or so.

Stupid bourgeois Equinox but it is close to where I work and I could go to locations with a pool that isn't too far from everything.

But other than that I pretty much loathe the place.

I'm hoping that's the case, gaspode. I am inclined to try the mornings and hope it is less crowded but not this week.

It dried my skin right out though.

I tried to read that in the context of masturbating and orgy...I've never been involved in one but if it involves laps and stuff...I'm not inclined to starting having them.

Yay, Lola! Getting back into it can take a while, but you'll do it. And stopping is okay. In fact, it's better to do intervals. I don't count the laps, I just say I'll do x yards (25, 50, 100) on this time or this rest (ie, 50 yards, rest 10, repeat). And your class will help.

Also, don't worry about Mr. Huffy. The slow lane is the lane where people aren't gonna be perfect. Just don't push off in front of him, because that's really evil.

Also, I left my suit at the pool tonight. So now tomorrow I have to leave early to go all the way uptown to get my suit (58th & 10th) and then go back to 24th and Lex to swim. I hope it's still there. Bleh.

Dame, your swimming evangelism has helped me push myself at the pool as well. I don't have any of this slow/fast lane stuff, usually I get the place to myself or a few senior citizens and swim for about half an hour. Lola_G, be sure to bring lots of moisturizer and some good shampoo. Go MetaSwimmers!

And Lola, get the Aveeno lotion. Yes, it's expensive. But oh so worth it. Also, some places have generic. Alternative: Eucerin Calming.
