MeCha Poker? [More:]I'm looking in to setting up a MeCha poker tournament.

As far as I can tell, there are two viable options.

Yahoo has a free service that we can rig to be invitation-only. The game is pot-limit, though.

PokerRoom will let us set up a private tournament, but ti's only available to real-money players. The buy-in would be $10.

I'm more tempted by the latter, but I actually have to pony-up my $10 before being able to futz with the tourney stuff. Before I do that, I'd like to know if there are enough people interested (say, 10) to make my own sawbuck worthwhile.

What say the bunnies?
I can't play for money. What's the point of no-limit if it's for real money? I'm not betting $50,000 on online poker. I vote Yahoo!

Poker would be fun, but I wouldn't be able to play with real money. I could probably part with some imaginary money though. I'm fairly wealthy in that respect. So yeah, Yahoo!

I'm rich on Yahoo. I'd be in.

On Yahoo, my poker face will be useless. Nonetheless I'd be up for it.

I have no money and I am a shitty poker player but I'd love to try.

Sounds like yahoo's the winner, then.

Shall we set a time?

How's about 7 Pacific/9 Central/10 Eastern?

By the way, either post your Yahoo usernames here or email them to me (address in profile). I'll protect the table and it will be invite-only.

For those who need to scope it out ahead of time -- work out software issues or whatever -- we'll be in Poker Advanced Lounge 4, table 15.

Start at games.yahoo.com.

Crytpical, I don't think you'll need to check the Yahoo email. Just show up in the the room a few minutes early and mudpuppie can invite us from there. If I'm wrong, mudpuppie will surely correct me.
posted by panoptican 17 December | 20:39
Cool, thanks.
posted by Cryptical Envelopment 17 December | 20:42
If you were wrong, panoptican, I surely would. You're right, though -- no need for email.
posted by mudpuppie 17 December | 20:42
Do I need to download software to play? I went to mud's link but I couldn't find the Poker Advanced Lounge (I am logged in to my Yahoo account).
posted by Cryptical Envelopment 17 December | 20:47
No software to download (unless you don't have Java). Try this link, it should take you directly to the poker page. Advanced Lounge 4 is in the list.

Hah. I started off great but lost my pants in the end. Thanks pudmuppie!

I am totally in favor of some real money action, if we ever get enough peeps.
posted by mosch 17 December | 23:33
I'm also down for the real money thing also...also.
posted by Hellbient 18 December | 12:23
They tried to get this going at SpoFi too, but nothing ever came together. I post this for reference and in memoriam of the first MeFi poker tourney, in which the esteemed mudpuppie beat the pants offa me.

Oh, and I'm all in (also also also).
posted by thatweirdguy2 18 December | 12:38
can't believe i missed that...just an observation - seems a $5 buy-in isn't really much to work with. Fifteen or twenty is still affordable and yet still wouldn't hurt too bad. And extra glorious for the winner. Eh?

BTW, that was really fun last night - a nice intro to online poker.
posted by Hellbient 18 December | 13:54
It was way fun. Let's do it again.

and yeah, I made "money" and saved money on a Saturday night...
