Old Boy [More:]

Fucking wow, did anyone else see that jam?

Min-sik Choi, who plays old boy (Oh Dae-su) is amazing, reminded me of Gary Oldman at his best somehow. Some cornyness in the John Woo
HK bullet opera tendencies in a few of the more dramatic scenes at the end, but all in all a shockingly nuts and good film.

Here is the quicktime trailer.

If you can handle some gore and ill amateur involuntary dentistry, get this shit on netflix.
Rockers is what we watched last night, yah mon, I and I like it okay, irie, steppin' razor mon, he dangerous.

I watched an old Homicide DVD (the episode about the queer bashing and the child identifying her mother's killer) and then a Family Guy rerun.

Big money mafia man stole I an I transport!

The soundtrack to rockers is great (rather clearly right?) it's got the actual acapella version of Jah no Dead that Burning Spear sings to Horsemouth to make him feel better that his scooter got stolen.

I aspire to be the kind of person that consoles a friend over a stolen scooter by sitting him down, giving him a spliff and singing him a song. That's how it's done.

Old Boy rocks. Great film!

Last I heard, Sean Penn bought the rights to remake it.

The director's next/last film, Sympathy for Lady Vengeance, isn't quite as good but is equally fucked.

I watched an episode of Undeclared. Why do all the shows I like get cancelled? Then I watched Project Runway. Project runway rocks. They were making clothes for Barbie.

Gaspode--I was heartbroken when Undeclared was cancelled. The DVD release is pretty much all I asked for for Christmas. If I don't get it, I'm kicking someone.

some of the outtakes on the dvd are hi-fucking-larious, jrossi4r. I hope you get it too!

My brother's been recommending Oldboy to me for a while now. Also Undeclared.

Maybe I should get a teevee. And a deeveedee player.

Oldboy is amazing. Certainly one of my favorite movies ever.

I tried to watch Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance last night, but fell asleep from too much beer. The boyfriend finished it, though and said it was quite good.

I'm curious about/dreading the remake of Oldboy.

Yeah, Oldboy was cool, just saw it last week. The end was a bit drawn out and dramatic, as you said. Temporary moment of disbelief - the bad guy was so young - he had to have been like 12 or 13 when he started this master plan. Must've been a trust fund kid.
But I expect inconsistencies like this in these sorts of films, and in any case, it's pretty forgivable, since it was such a good freaky ride...

The bad guy was annoying (and way too young), a real scenery chewer, I suspect that he kept turning up the cheese and it was too late to replace him, because the rest of the acting doesn't play quite that over the top.

The bad guy was annoying

I agree.
I suppose the film school argument would be something like: "yeah, he was annoying, but of course someone who'd do something so evil would have to be annoying."

Oh for fucks sake. Make your own damn movies. People who do this with books are called hacks and lazy (and plagirists in extreme cases), why do filmmakers get a pass? Apparently some dragchute pisspeddler has bought the rights to I Know Where I'm Going! too. If you guys truly love these movies, get out there and campaign for people to go see the original. Finance limited theatrical rereleases or something.

Anyway, Sean Penn's only good movie is Hugo Pool. Fuck him. With something sharp.

Stupid fuckin' commas.

Haven't seen State of Grace. Does he do something other than smile for a bit, then look confused, then get all shouty/weepy?
