Dummies reduce cot deaths [More:]
... which makes sense only after you realize that "dummy" is British slang for "pacifier".
Yeah, I wondered if they were recommending putting mannequin torsos in the crib with the baby for at least the first half of the article. That would just be weird, but I guess there wouldn't be much room for the kid to roll over.

Heh. Yeah, I read the article first, and was totally confused, trying to picture a dummy with an "external handle" that would be the sort of thing you'd actually want to put in a child's bed.

me, too. i was looking for the dummy. i was looking for the handle.
my mind leapt immediately to some type of comfort device or human contact substitute.
i'm still wondering where the term binkie came from.

Yeah, me too. I pictured mannequin torsos too.

Incidentally, during the two years in France when vaccinations were not required, the SIDS rate dropped to zero. Yep, zero.

I was thinking of the cloth mother/wire mother monkey experiments, not mannequins, but I think it is along the same lines.
