I believe I can fly... I believe I can touch the sky. Okay, for reals...have you ever had a dream where you can fly?

I haven't had one in awhile but I have had them often. I love them. Seriously, my favorite dreams.
My favorite dreams usually involve Alyson Hannigan, Rachel Ray, 200 pounds of jello and a riding crop.

you?

Well, if we are going to take it there...

Al Swearengen, Dr. House, and the Jello has to be Lime.

Aw man, I was ready to talk about flying dreams. (Which I have regularly.)

Mmmm....Swearengen. That man can make a stream of obscenities sound like a love letter.

I used to have recurring dreams as a child that I could hover by just leaning forward and slowly lifting my legs up one at a time. I told this to a friend of mine once and was shocked to find that he had the same exact dreams and also remembers them vividly. We now suspect that we may, in fact, have superpowers.

I really meant it in a sweet way, jon. I am incapable of ignoring you but I love my flying dreams.

lola, in preschool they told us the lime jello was made from frogs to get us to eat it, which, of course, worked brilliantly.

I also often have flying dreams and yeah, they rank way high on the list.

When I was in fifth grade, I was convinced I could fly.

I had these extremely vivid dreams where I would "live a day," doing all the mundane things I did then: go to school, do homework, play with friends, practice violin, etc. Sometimes I would be confused the next day, thinking I had done things the day before, though in reality it was a dream.

Sometimes in these dreams I could fly, and I was convinced when I wasn't dreaming that the flying actually had taken place, because the rest of the dream was confusingly real. I would kind of float up and hover about ten feet above the four-square courts, the head up the hill and land on the jungle gym, or the top of the slide, and continue playing as usual.

But I never told anybody about it because I knew I'd be unable to fly if I did, just like I never told anyone I secretly prayed to Jesus to give me a leather pouch from which I could pull anything I wanted, specifically the light blue OP brand corduroy shorts which I was so sure would impress Amy H., the crush of the class.

On preview, yup.

I fly all over the place. I don't flap my arms or anything and since I haven't had them in awhile I can't remember what it is exactly that I do to "propel" myself but I know there is something. It's kind of like hang-gliding without any assistance.

I've had exactly one, and some Anne Rice Sexy Vampire Dude was carrying me, I wasn't flying on my own. It was great though. I feel I am missing out. Maybe I'll sleep as lola_g tonight.

Hey Hugh, what's the difference between "the" and "then?"

Obviously you don't know.

I never have flying dreams :(
Well, once I was standing on my school steps, and looking out, the entire landscape was filled with water, so I pushed off and began to swim (frog-kicking style). I realized then that it was all a dream, and willed all the water away, and I began to fly over the whole landscape (like lola_g, hang-gliding without any assistance). Like always, though, I woke up shortly after I started lucid dreaming. :(

Totally. Only, with me, I would realize (in the dream) that I was in a good situation for falling, like on a staircase or a rooftop, and I'd jump, knowing it was going to be fun and not fatal.

Weird.

I used to do that too, until I tried jumping into a snow-bank (there was a secret base underneath it), but I landed on an awning by mistake, which slowed my speed. I became trapped halfway between the ground and the secret base, which was a suffocating and terrifying experience. No more dream-jumping for me.

I want to know why this seems to be a childhood phenom. Is adult life just too fraught with crap and tension? Or is it a more interesting brain chemistry thing?

I dunno, everichon, I find that I have a tendency to have these kinds of dreams with greater frequency when I'm feeling especially tense. I also wake myself up from laughing out loud in my sleep, which seems to happen more often when I'm feeling particularly stressed.
