10cc? I know that, y'know, people like 'em and junk. My father's mentioned 'em more than a few times, though he doesn't seem to own any. Me? I get 'em confused with Godley and Creem for some reason.
Can anyone recommend/YSI some tracks to me? Godley and Creem (if I'm even spelling that right) would also be appreciated...
Oh, you've just given me some great ideas for volume II of the 70's cheeze mix CD (Volume I will be revealed as soon as I can get lipstick thespian to help me with the cover art).

I can't YSI at the moment but I'd just like to say that 10cc were pop gods and Deceptive Bends is a fantastic album. Thanks.

Matilda: My dad once made my girlfriend a mix of 70s cheeze that was all culled from songs on Napster that were labelled as Blue Öyster Cult (she had never consciously heard them). It was pretty funny, thinking that people had labelled Cheap Trick, T. Rex, Manfred Man, Fleetwood Mac etc. all as BÖC. Great stuff...

I've had the same problem with 10cc as you klangklangston (and G and C were in 10cc and their video for cry still gives me nightmares). A friend wrote a little bit about them, though, so I thought I'd give it a shot. No, don't like them, not even with a dash of irony. When I get home tonight, I'll see if I still have anything on the computer to send ya. And if not, well, I'm sure I can dig some up somewhere.

I'll post the two obvious tracks.

I'll assume "I'm Not In Love," (which is actually a rather good song) is one, and "The Sacro-Illiac" is the other.

No, but I might post that one later.

Thanks Weretable! I found the Sacri-iliac on the Bubblegum machine site while I was downloading those two.

The Things We Do for Love? Was that 10CC?

Yeah. I always got that song confused with "Everybody Plays The Fool," by the Main Ingredient, probably because they were both staples on the oldies stations I listened to from the backseat of the car as a kid.

Ah, 10cc. One of those bands where, every time I’m in a record shop music store, I think, “Oh yeah. I should at least pick up that anthology”. And of course, I never do.

They were a happy collision between art and pop, such as was commonly attempted at the time but rarely pulled off quite so well. Sorry I haven’t got anything to YSI, but some fondly remembered cuts from 30-some years ago include “Rubber Bullets”, “Wall Street Shuffle”, “I’m Mandy, Fly Me”, “Art For Art’s Sake”, “Good Morning, Judge”, and of course “I’m Not In Love”.

(A side note on “I’m Not In Love”, from an article in Uncut a while back: “The sumptuous chorus was Crème’s idea: the group spent three weeks multi-tracking each note of the chromatic scale until they’d amassed a staggering 256 voices. For the arrangement, Godley employed tape loops to create a wash of sound. Finally, (band member Eric) Stewart used the mixing desk as an instrument, playing the faders like a keyboard.”)

Everybody else beat me to the best ones, but I still occasionally break out singing the refrain from "Life is a Minestrone"
minnie, minnie, minnie, minnie-stronie!

And I remember the video for "Cry" which I think was in black and white. It was a series of people staring into the camera as they began to cry. If I remember correctly, it was one of the first videos that utilized 'morphing'. I was absolutely fascinated by the video, but could barely finish watching the entire thing without breaking into sympathy tears.

that's the one, frisbee girl. now that i think about it, i'm not sure if it was the sympathy sadness or the faces melting that freaked me out so much as a kid, but it definitely has stuck with me over the years. i tried to find it somewhere, but didn't come up with anything... oh well.

Yeah, it was actually seeing that video on Bevis and Butthead again that kinda sparked the memories of 10cc/Godley&Creme...
