01 December 2005

Hi. It's snowing. Nothing is happening here save a raging debate whether "Cat Scratch Fever" is a right-wing Nugentian salute to mastubation. Toodles.
Shit. MastuRbation. I knew that one.

The words "shit" and "masturbation" should always be kept separate. You knew that one.

While The Nuge as a guitarist is most definitely a wanker of the highest order, I don't think that's what the song is about.

I make the pussy purr with
The stroke of my hand
They know they gettin' it from me
They know just where to go
When they need their lovin man
They know I do it for free

Well. I guess that settles that.

Hmmm. It's snowing here, too. Which is about a month early. 27 degrees. And nobody knows how to drive in the snow.

Sure we do. It's the stopping we suck at.

I'm the only person in Portland who knows how to stop in the snow. And I don't have a car, so I just backseat drive...

I hope it's nice and dry and clear by Saturday for the Cascadia meetup!

I wish we could have some snow. We're barely out of summer it seems like.

as a human, he's a wanker. as a guitarist he's pretty damned good. "Cat Scratch fever," "Tied Up In Love," and especially "Journey To The Center Of The mind," (recorded when he was 16) have some badass guitar playing, politics be damned.

Oh yeah, he's definitely done some good stuff. Earlier on in his career he was relatively restrained; by the time of Double Live Gonzo, though, you have to admit that he was getting pretty wanky during his solos.

oh sure. but there were moments when his whole "kiss my ass if you don't like it," persona was backed up by music good enough to make him absoultely embraceable, which is why I still can't disavow the crazy fuck.

Nothin' tastier than a little free-range Nougat.

I always wondered about that one line: "the stakes are high / and so am I", Nugent being such an adamant straight-edge kinda guy and all. Still, some fine riffage there. I think my personal fave is either "Stranglehold" or "Death By Misadventure", although I haven't heard the latter in a long, long time.

I figure he was high on pussy, the one vice he admits to overindulging in. And he claimed to not have realized that "Journey To The Center oF The Mind," was about drugs (I have the vinyl LP, it has pics of about 100 peices of pot paraphenalia) so he may be being disingenuous.

That album also contains "Why Is a Carrot More Orange Than An Orange," one of the best peices of addled 60's music ever.

(supposedly, almost every member of the Amboy Dukes exceot Ted was so dope-addled they could'nt function, and died dope related deaths, so Ted was left to TCB, so maybe that's where his attitude acquired it's edge. just a theory)

I have a 45 of "JTTCOYM" that my dad got in a box of promo records from a radio station owner that dad did some work for. It confused me at the time - hell, I was only about 7 or 8 when I first played it - but I think it helped form my taste for psychedelia.
