AskMecha: What's good for a fat lip?
Just got punched in the mouth sparring in my Kung Fu class, what's a good way to keep it from swelling up too bad?

Ice is pretty much the only way to go. And may an anti-inflammatory like Advil, though I think that's more for muscles.

Ice it for twenty minutes every half hour. Crush some ice in a ziploc bag, put in a little cold water, wrap it in a damp cloth and then get bored holding it to your mug.

Bags of frozen veggies make good icepacks, and you can thaw dinner at the same time. No fuss, no muss, easy to deal with with one hand.

And isn't it good to alternate hot/cold--i.e., peas for a little while, hot washcloth for a little while?
