Who's your favorite person? [More:]

My very favorite person in the world has always been my grandma. My fondest childhood memories involve being with her and grandpa, who died in 1995.

My grandma is the kindest, sweetest, gentlest person I've ever known. She and I have always had a very tight bond. (Though I feel sort of bad about this, I think my bond with her is tighter than the bond my cousins share with her -- even though they all grew up near her and I didn't.)

I've never really seen my grandma more than once a year. After my grandpa died, she spent a few Christmases with us in Texas. But now she's older, and very frail, and she can't make the trip.

This year, we're going to her for Thanksgiving. (This required some lobbying on my part.) I haven't seen her in a couple years, and it's fairly safe to assume that this will be the last time I see her.

Can't wait to spend some time with her.

My mom says that when grandma heard we were going to spend Thanksgiving with her (we usually don't), she cried.

Anyway, she's my favorite person.

Who's yours?
My sons. They are full of flaws (as I said they have my genes) but I like them as people. That was a truly startling revelation. I mean, of course you love your kids because they are yours but to look at them and see them as adults and like them is a revelation. They are individuals and I can take some credit for doing something right in whatever half-assed fashion. They are handsome, can cook, clean up after themselves, and they treat people and animals well. Not bad.

My favourite person is my ex supervisor. Unfailingly kind, blindingly intelligent, always enthusiatic, she is one of the few people who walk with the gods.

Very sweet, mudpuppie & arse_hat. :D One of my favorite people is an engineer I used to work with. He was the best teacher and mentor, and took time with me. He's still there, but I was laid off 4 years ago. :/

My favorite person died back in 2002. He was our worship pastor and literally everyone loved him.

His funeral was the largest I'd ever seen, with people from across the country in attendence.

My favorite person? (Let's disqualify my wife since that's too easy)

I think I'd go with my aunt-in-law Margie, who lives in a neat house in the country and paints and is unfailingly nice and earthy in a totally unironic way.

I simply can't do that. My wife is my *only* favorite person. I was wondering whether I could come up with someone else, but everyone else really is a distant second.

That said, I dearly loved my godmother who was my dad's aunt. She passed away about a year ago. When I was younger, I didn't appreciate her as much as I did when I got older and lived a little. As my godmother, I can't really remember her ever discussing religion with me, yet she walked the walk and was one of the best witnesses to Christianity I know.

My 3-year old nephew can differentiate the new Acura TL from the old. He can also tell the two main taxicab makes apart (Chevy Grand Marquis and Ford Something-or-other). Here's one of his jokes: "B-M-W, B-M-double-me."

So he likes cars.

When he was a little baby he was colicky, and I would stop his crying by carrying him close and quietly singing raunchy blues songs deep in my chest. Sometimes I'd give his parents a break and doze with him while they went to a movie (or a hotel, for all I know).

I love that kid. Before I left to catch my train back, he gave me a big hug and whispered in my ear, as if he was imparting the most weighty of truths, "Commander Cuckoo Bananas."

I didn't mean to pass over my wife or anything, she's certainly #1.

My favorite person I didn't know who's deceased: Tie between Julia Child/Johnny Cash.

Here's an example of my nephew's raunchy blues lullaby:

Candy Man
Mississippi John Hurt

Well all you ladies gather 'round
That good sweet candy man's in town
It's the candy man
It's the candy man

He likes a stick of candy just nine inch long
He sells as fast a hog can chew his corn
It's the candy man...

All heard what sister Johnson said
She always takes a candy stick to bed

Don't stand close to the candy man
He'll leave a big candy stick in your hand

He sold some candy to sister Bad
The very next day she took all he had

If you try his candy, good friend of mine,
you sure will want it for a long long time

His stick candy don't melt away
It just gets better, so the ladies say

My mom, because she gave up being a stay-at-home mom (she was really good at it) to become the primary bread-winner, and always put the rest of the family first.

(Note, I only said my mom cause I thought it'd be shallow if I said "that guy I'm sleeping with.")

My father and a school counselor in high school. Both wonderful, compassionate and joyful people who had an amazing impact on my life.

Love Mississippi John Hurt, Hugh. That made me smile. [Commander Cuckoo Bananas!]

pup, between Chicago and your grandma, it sounds like you're going to have a great Thanksgiving!

Hugh--You are one kick-ass uncle and the way you talk about your nephew makes me love you.

My favorite person (besides the hubby and kid) is my best friend. In those moments when I feel like an irredeemable failure at everything, I think to myself, "You can't be all bad. Liz still likes you." She is good to the core and is one of the few people whose criticisms matter to me. When she says, "You're wrong on this one," I listen. She has been Ethel to my Lucy for 15 years and in a few weeks, she's moving across the country. :-(

Yeah, so I think I'm now officially in love with Hugh. A guy who will sing Mississippi John Hurt to a colicky baby? Oh yeah.

My favorite person, though, is my mom. And my uncle.

My favorite person was my mother's father. My parents split when I was very young, and he wasn't around much. So my grandfather stepped into all those moments I needed a dad - Father-daughter dinners, softball games, camping trips, etc. He taught me to square dance and to ride my back. But mostly he just taught me how to be a good person.

Not funny.

Only you think that.

My favourite person ever is dead. My Grandfather was the closest thing to a father I ever had and he was a far better person than I ever thought when he was alive. I think about him a lot and wish that I had spent more time with him when he was fading away.

I ate your grandfather's dick.

See? Hilarious.

Okay that was tarded.

Please don't insult my loved ones. I don't seem to be able to deal with that rationally.

Why the hell doesn't this place have an edit feature anyway?
