mp3 tag editor? I need an mp3 tag editor. iTunes won't give me access to the Title tag field. I downloaded GearVolt, and for the life of me, I cannot figure out how it works. Anybody know a simple tag editor?

I always use mp3tag.

Thanks, agropyron. Works well, but why didn't they include wav files? Oh, well. It'll get me through for now.

Mp3bookhelper is the bomb.

Amazing program, and the author is very willing to add features if you email him nicely.

Thanks, orthoganality, but I would prefer not having to play the file in order to edit its tags.

I am beginning to suspect a free, simple tag editor that does not care what the file is does not exist.

Thanks, orthoganality [sic], but I would prefer not having to play the file in order to edit its tags.

Huh?? You don't have to play the file.

You load the file in Mp3bookhelper, then you change the tags. Mp3bookhelper is sweet because it automates much if the work. (It can guess tags, transform them, and apply tags to entire sets of mp3s at once.)

Sorry, I was going by what the website said. I'll give it a try then. Thanks again.

I give up. Isn't there anything with a simple spreadsheet-type interface?

orthoganality: I tried it, but the help files filled with technical terms with no explanation.

That's weird that iTunes won't let you access the title tag field. I can change song titles if I really want to. Or are you talking about something more complicated?

No, I just want to change Artist and Title, but I don't see anywhere in iTunes that brings up the Title field without changing the file name.

I always hear Tag & Rename is one of the best. But I use iTunes, MusicBrainz (to "standardize"), and Audioshell. The latter lets you edit the ID3 tags from the Windows property dialog, which is handy when you just have one or two, or don't want to fire up a program, or whatever. You can even access it from inside an "open file" dialog.

It's actually from the same folks as T&R.

After preview -- mischief, do you have "let iTunes manage my music" checked? If so, it will reorganize your files into directories and change the name. If not, it leaves the file in place and under the same filesystem name.

I just Winamp. If you right click on a track in the playlist, it brings up a menu and voila! You can edit your mp3 tag.

I just use Winamp, I mean. You, know--to edit my mp3 tags. Am I being clear here ?

What version of Winamp do you have, y2karl? I have 5.11, and right-clicking only gives me a view of the file info but no way to edit it.

for winamp 5.11 just right click the file (or files) in media library and click Edit Selected Items. Make sure 'Update File Tag if Supported' is ticked, and make sure your files are not read only.
A separate program i use is TagScanner that is a cinch to use. I recently fixed a few thousand tags on my collection with it.
