The first time I used one of these [More:]was to record "Seasons in the Sun" off the radio.

I am so ashamed.

image intensive website. via videocrab.
...however, I soon redeemed myself after that critical error and used the things for their intended purpose. Recording farts.

There is no shame in Terry Jacks, my man.

Related seventies pop nugget anecdote: the two toughest women I've ever known, one a bisexual ex-drunk into S&M, the other an ex-con ex-junkie biker chick, both told me what their fvorite record (and first 45 purchase as kids) was- "Billy, Dont be A Hero" by Bo Donaldson & the Heywoods.

Aparrently, they also did a cover of Sweet's "Teenage Rampage," I tried to download it once but lost the connection. I'd still love to hear it.

I'm downloading it for you right now, dahlink. If all goes well, I'll put it on yousendit as soon as I get back from lunch. Toodles!

*salaams*

where the hell did you find it?

Do you like salsa/boogaloo? I'll put up some tracks in return.

You're cooler than I am, wolfdaddy. The first time I used a cassette it was to record the Hogan's Heroes theme off the TV.
Later, we would hide the tape deck behind the couch and attempt to record our parents in the living room.

I found it on soulseek, jon. I don't need a payback, but if you feel the need, surprise me! It's all good ;)

(I don't believe I just typed that)

Yes, well, I guess not everyone gets to be covered by boy bands. I, myself, have wanted to be covered by boy bands but it hasn't happened yet.

*loquacious imagines wolfdaddy standing stark naked and grinning madly beneath some gigantic industrial smelter sized bucket that is filled to overflowing with boy bands and baby oil, reaching up to pull the lever that tips the contents all over him*

Teenage Rampage!

Speaking of teenage rampage, which boy bands would you like to be covered with, wolfdaddy? Overall, I think Backstreet Boys had the cutest guys. JC and Justin of 'nsync were cuties, but the other three were dogs.

I have a teenage daughter, which is why I know this stuff. For reals! I do!

Oh crap I just listened to it, and it's live. Is that the only way I can get it? It sounds like a cross between Ballroom Blitz and They're Coming to Take Me Away ;)

ico, thank you, but I already have The Sweet's version of it. I was looking for Bo Donaldson and the Heywoods' cover. Sorry if that wasn't clear in the original comment.

Sorry you went through all that trouble for nothing. i do appreciate it though.

also, boy/girl band theory/idea: Christina Aguilera, who has a nice set of pipes, should do a cover of Reparata & the Delrons teen heartbreak epic "I'm Nobody's Baby Now," with a full Spectorian complement of live musicians including strings and backup vocalists. if it was produced right (no dancy beats, no slick sheen) it would allow her to transcend her category.

Ah, you did make it clear. Me no read good.

(I'll look for it... ;)
posted by iconomy 07 November | 13:41
Wow, jon - I would really like to hear that (re: Christina).

Agreed about Aguilera, she does have a good voice though whether she can transcend typecasting one day, we'll see.

As to boy bands, well the Backstreet Boys do have a place in my heart, mainly because we all know Nick Carter is a sister (and needs to come out BEFORE he turns 68 dammit, though I suppose his stint as an XY magazine cover boy did say a lot). However I had the good fortune to have a friend who was for a time webmaster for The Ataris. Through him, I got to meet the boys in Blink 182 and, well, let's just say they can cover me any time they like. Very charming. And naughty. Very naughty.

For the uninitiated, here's I'm Nobody's Baby Now by Reparata & the Delrons (the song I'd have Christina cover). Maybe I should be an A&R man.

For ico's efforts here's Summer by War, one of my favorite songs.

I'm a closet Xtina fan. Or just a fan of closets, I dunno.

Happy Monday all! Jon, hope you are on the mend. I just found out I have to see an endodontic specialist for two possible abscessed teeth. Joy!

But Ladies Man is on it's way from Amazon, and I shall bend your ear with my thoughts on it during/after completion.

My best friend in grade school and I used to make tapes pretending we were on a radio station. We'd sit there and make up fake news stories about our families, our teachers, our pets, kids in our classes, etc. And then we'd sing songs (badly). : )
posted by sisterhavana 07 November | 16:53
We did that too sister; I wish I had saved them.

Ouch. Good luck. I've had a few root canals. After the second shot, it's not as bad as the hype, and leving them alone is dangerous, I know of which I speak. When I was uninsured I had a half-assed root canal done, and couldn't afford a crown and wound up losing the tooth and having to get more root canals later including an emergency one when I woke up in the middle of the night with the most intense pain (incl. the kidney stone) that i've ever felt. Dentophobia does not pay.
