04 November 2005

The darkness. Today the sun came up at 07:17 and set at 15:48. And it's only November. It sucks.
I hate daylight savings time.

Yes, I really mean that I hate daylight savings time, just in case you haven't grokked that yet.

However, I do love popcorn.

It is a cold, wet, gray day here. Perfect for staring out the window and watching the wind trying to remove the last few remaining maple leaves. Here's the soundtrack: Bill Evans, "My Foolish Heart".

(1) holy CATS where do you live that is so far north?, and (2) you should probably move to texas, then. I HIGHLY RECCOMMEND IT.

OK, but then you guys have that lovely Sven Nykvist-like, crystal-clear, clean Northern light, and in the summer days just last forever.

good luck comrade, and don't despair -- long nights are made for love

FUCK the darkness. There is no worse aspect of the turn of the seasons and the slide towards deep freeze.

I've always felt this way.

This is where I was today, 20 minutes from my house. Suck it, fall haters!

I hate not being able to adhere to a natural circadian rhythm. KILL YOUR WATCH/ALARM CLOCK!

a season like that would crive me bashitinsane in three days flat.

It's funny, seeing recent transplants from California and Arizona trying to adjust to the Northwestern winter. It's usually around New Year's that they get this sorta desperate, deer-in-the-headlights look in their eye; sometimes they snap altogether. Cheers me up no end.

I grew up in CA, and do not miss the relentless sun there in the least.

Poor Mr. Marx! Come down here and camp out on my very uncomfortable Indonesian wooden couch in my home office. We'll go out and buy lots of cushions to comfy it up (you are kind of thin, right?).

We are getting a couple more hours of sun than you, and as of yesterday (and today, it looks like), it was sunny and bright, and still warm enough to sit outside at the tavernas during the day... and believe me people are grabbing all the gusto they can before it gets too cold.

I went to the little taverna-populatd square behind my building yesterday to visit my greengrocers and the bread shop, and it was filled with merry people eating and drinking and gypsy musicians parading about. So festive!

you are kind of thin, right?
