Ask MeCha: When awaiting a shipment from DHL, what does a status of "Transit through sort facility" mean? →[More:]Also, what does it mean when a package sits in that status for three days? DHL's FAQ is useless on both points.
If it means the same as another shipping company I worked for, it just means it went through a hub to be sorted and redirected. As for the 3 days, it could just be that the status hasn't been updated through either mishandling or a bug in the system. Either wouldn't surprise me given DHLs freshman status.
I'd call them. We don't use DHL for mission-critical packages because this sort of thing happens too often. Calling their customer service usually sorts things out, though.
I just did and they were pretty unhelpful. They acknowledge that the package is delayed but "because it's a ground shipment" they don't have specific details on why. Man, this order has been nothing but trouble: ultra-skeezy vendor (partspc.com) whose reputation I really should have done more research on, now this. I fully expect the equipment to be faulty when it arrives, so I can get started on a -by all accounts- nightmarish RMA process. BAH!
Happened to me too. I lost my wallet in San Francisco. Some very nice guy found it, went through my docs, tracked me down, called me, got my address, and then DHL'd the wallet back to me. At which point DHL then promptly lost it again. Turned out they had employed some-guy-with-a-white-van to do their delivering on a contract basis, and he had left it at someone else's address (so he said).
It was all sorted out in the end, and one thing that worked was, when I called DHL's call centre, I asked the rep to get in touch with the local distribution centre, which was, for obvious reasons, not listed in the phone book. The rep said that they could not give me the number, but that they (the rep) would try, and I could call back in an hour to see what had transpired. I called back an hour later, and the rep said that the distribution center had not called the rep back, and so by DHL regs, the rep was obliged to give me the distribution centre telephone number so that I could call them myself. From there it was a relatively easy task to call the centre, and get them to call white-van-dude and ask where the $#@! my delivery was. At which point his memory was jogged.
On another occasion Apple shipped a power supply to my office via DHL, with the company name but without the room number. The DHL guy presumably could not read the board in the lobby with company names on, and sent it back.
PinkStainlessTail, I recently had to interact with the DHL customer service goons about an overnight shipment inexplicably delayed in the sorting facility for a few days.
I found it endlessly helpful to utter the magic words: "Can you escalate this customer service request, please?" Once I was talking to a more senior person, things started happening.

I'm actually sort of hoping something like this eventually happens, and I can get out of ever receiving the goods from this vendor, for the reasons I mentioned above.

I will be trying this on Monday for sure. Thanks!
I would suggest using another courier in the future.
