Historic building in my town burning... [More:]Driving home from visiting my parents I noticed several helicopters hovering over my home town of Golden, Colorado. Then I noticed the smoke and flames. The building is one of the oldest in town, and housed the territorial capitol from 1866-1867. (Predating Coors coming here in 1873). I hope it's not a complete loss. What a bummer.
that sucks--was it landmarked?

(how far are you from Westminster? what's it like there?)

Yeah, amberglow, it's an historical landmark. Looks like most of the damage was the upper floor, so hopefully there's not so much structural damage they have to tear it down.

Westminster is close, and is a suburb of Denver. I'd have to say it's probably a typical middle American suburb with housing tracts of various ages (mostly late 60's and beyond), shopping malls, and the like. Doesn't really have a "downtown" associated with it. The Denver metro area in general is quite close to the mountains, and it doesn't take long to escape. Teece might have a better take on it than I being a native to the area. I've only lived here a dozen years or so, but have been visiting my brother here about 25 years.
