25 October 2005

Damn Portland weather! [More:]

It's suddenly pouring outside and I have to leave very soon to walk a very long distance carrying heavy things and I don't have my umbrella because I'm still adjusting to the frequency of fall showers and I'm not wearing a hat because it wasn't cold enough to this morning which means I'm going to get all cold and wet which sucks more than it usually might because I have a photoshoot this evening and do not have a hairdryer. And I'm out of cigarettes. And far from anywhere that sells my brand.

Maybe the makeup artist will have a hairdryer.

Thanks for letting me whinge.
Man, it's been raining in New York since the beginning of October. Somewhere around the eleventh, we'd had more than any year since 1906 or 1903 or something. Maybe we've passed that now.

Wow, thanks honey-bunny! Oh to be so warm and schwanky!

Hey dame, lets float that thing over to Italy for La Scala season!

That is the best tugboat EVAR. Specklet, you'll have to make it here on your own, but then Italy is just down & to the right.

Incidentally, I just spent way too much money with Speedo, so I'm totally ready for the water in any form.

Here in Portland, Maine, we have 2 non-rainy days scheduled for the next 10. I was instantly soaked twice today.

Hang in there. :)

Speedo have made possibly the biggest mistake is cross-marketing history with this. Not appetizing.

Why, jon? It's just stupid water.

Yes, but I really want to associate bathing trunks with drinking water. Maybe Charmin should put out a bottled water, too.

But for people who swim, Speedo isn't just bathing trunks. It's everything. TYR is the smaller company, and Nike might be something if they could ever make suits that everyone didn't hate. So for some people it isn't so weird. For those who just think "fat hairy European on the beach" when they think of Speedo, well, I don't think anything will help.

Well, that's what most people see when they hear speedo, or they just visualize a pair of nut-huggers. When I saw bottles of the Speedo Water at the corner deli, I just had a rather disturbing mental image of hairnetted immigrant women grimly wringing out soaking trunks into plastic bottles.

Yeah, but I think a lot don't. And that's probably enough for Speedo. They're like the Microsoft of swimming (only their products don't suck).

For a socialist, you're awful brand concious.

I've never bought a bathing suit based on brand name. But then again I don't swim in NYC, and in Florida I only went to beaches that didn't require one.

Well, if you want a real suit (not a floating around suit), there aren't loads of choices. Not to mention: goggles, caps, pull bouys, paddles, etc. Anyway, I do, to some degree, understand the world in which I live and that means uderstanding the implacations of brands. Further, I'm not against private enterprise; I just think it should be heavily regulated & taxes should be high at high income levels for some redistibution. And I'm a snob.

When I used to swim I only bought Speedo suits because they fit the best. Actually the only bathing suit I have at the moment is a racing suit... which doesn't look so good on the beach, but whatever.
posted by gaspode 25 October | 21:35
I'd really go for one of those suits that cover up everything except for my arms and legs. So would everyone else in the pool.

Speck, you make me all homesick even though I live right across the river.

Did someone say "paddle"?

Incidentally, everything worked out fine and I felt much better when I got to the shoot.
