MeCha Last.FM group I went ahead and created one. We've got one for MeFi and MeFi IRC, why not one for MeCha? Especially since this has been such a musically oriented place.
Basically people install a plugin in their audio player software and it uploads information on what music they've been listening to and generates stats.
OK, I know it's 6:15 in the morning, but they've changed their interface and I can't find the "join group" link. Maybe the interface wasn't very intuitive to begin with anyway.
OK, I've taken a quick look at the site, but I can't figure out what Last FM does, exactly. What is it?
It really does two things: (1) tracks your listening habits and creates cool charts and whatnot, which help you find similar artists and users with similar tastes; and (2) has a streaming radio that you can train to offer music you like. Recently, they've added tags, so you can tag tracks and artists, and listen to streaming radio for tags. If you are a paying member, you get additional features.
Changed the tagline, dodgy, didn't mean to slight anyone who works hard on this site.
Yeah, bp, if you don't play music on your computer there's nothing to upload, and if you don't use their radio there's no other point. You can still browse it to see what the group is listening to, or just tool around based on your favorite artists, though, without registering.
We already have 14 members! One more and we can get group charts this Sunday. There's already group radio. And I'm listening to something very weird.
